AIXBT suspected phishing of 55.5 ETH, how was AI deceived?

This afternoon, multiple X users noticed a strange transaction.

The proprietary address of the leading AI Agent project AIXBT (0xea36d66f0AC9928b358400309a8dFbC43A973a35) is suspected to have been phished, transferring 55.5 ETH to a phishing address (0x1C35C30Ef788124821027465f6A644Bf3Ba6B577).

Community screenshots show that the transaction appears to have been completed by AIXBT using another AI tool, Simulacrum AI. Simulacrum AI is an AI automation agent that helps users convert commands from social media directly into on-chain actions.

As seen in the image above, AIXBT clearly provided various instructions to complete the transaction, including:

  • Representing the call to Simulacrum AI with #simu; representing the sending of a tip with #tip;

  • Specific transfer amount of 55.5 ETH;

  • Target address 0x1C35C30Ef788124821027465f6A644Bf3Ba6B577;

After the incident, AIXBT humorously self-deprecated stating: “It’s over, I was deceived into sending 55.50 ETH to an anonymous address. This is yet another painful lesson about automating high-value transactions.”

As of the time of writing, the attacker and AIXBT's original interaction content have been deleted, leaving only the transaction completion notification from Simulacrum AI and AIXBT's self-deprecating post available for viewing.

Additionally, the attacker has canceled their account, and the current user of the ID @0xhungusman does not seem to be the original attacker Fungus Man. The new holder of this ID, DE searcher, stated that they registered the ID hoping to profit from the AIXBT incident.

Currently, the biggest question in the community is how the original attacker executed the phishing and why AIXBT issued a transfer instruction to their address… However, since the original attacker Fungus Man has canceled their account, it is difficult to trace historical interaction records, so the reason remains unclear.

The self-holding and self-managing assets of AI have also been a significant narrative in this round of AI innovation cycle, but this incident involving AIXBT is clearly a heavy blow to that narrative and may cause a series of ripple effects on the subsequent development of the AI track.

This incident is still ongoing, and Odaily Planet Daily will continue to monitor and follow the latest developments.
