Former U.S. President Donald Trump's second ex-wife, Marla Maples, has expressed support for ending the U.S. government's lawsuit against early Bitcoin advocate Roger Ver, known as "Bitcoin Jesus."

In a post on the X platform on March 16, Maples stated, "Sharing more about the call to dismiss the prosecution against Roger Ver," and shared a video produced by an organization aimed at supporting Ver, while tagging Trump, Elon Musk, and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The U.S. Department of Justice charged Ver in April 2024 with mail fraud, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns, claiming he concealed the amount of Bitcoin (BTC) he owned when he renounced his U.S. citizenship in 2014 and fraudulently caused the IRS to lose $48 million by failing to report the proceeds from the sale of Bitcoin.

Maples met Trump in the mid-1980s when he was still married to his first wife, Ivana Trump. Maples later became Trump's second wife, marrying him in 1993 until their divorce in 1999. She has long been involved in charity work, actively supporting various charitable organizations and participating in social causes.

Maples appears to maintain a close relationship with Trump and continues to support him. The couple has one daughter, Tiffany Trump. Maples attended Trump's inauguration and stated in a July interview with the London Evening Standard that she is "willing to support him in any way" during his presidential campaign.

Maples joins a number of prominent figures calling for the prosecution against Ver to be dropped, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht. Ulbricht faced a double life sentence until Trump granted him clemency this January.

Ver has requested a pardon from Trump, claiming he is being unfairly persecuted and is a victim of a "legal war."

Neither Trump nor the White House has publicly responded to Ver's request, but Trump's "cost-cutting chief" Musk stated in a January X post that Ver "renounced his U.S. citizenship. Ver will not receive a pardon. Membership has its privileges."

Ver was arrested in Spain during the U.S. lawsuit and is awaiting extradition to the U.S., but later secured bail on the condition of remaining in Spain.

He filed a motion in December to dismiss the government's case, arguing that the charges are unconstitutional and that the "exit tax" imposed by the IRS on those who renounce their citizenship is "extremely vague" when applied to cryptocurrency.

Cointelegraph has reached out to Maples for comment.
