According to reports, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) authorities have begun releasing Chinese-made cryptocurrency mining machines, which had been detained at various entry points in the U.S. for several months.

The CEO of cryptocurrency mining machine manufacturer Synteq Digital, Taras Kulyk, told Reuters, "Thousands of devices have already been released," noting that approximately 10,000 mining machines had been seized at major U.S. entry points.

Kulyk also stated, "Clearly, some people in customs do not like Bitcoin mining; they want to cause trouble for the entire industry, and they have been quite successful at it."

Ethan Vera, COO of Bitcoin mining infrastructure company Luxor Technology, also told Reuters, "Some of the seized goods are being released, but this is still just a small portion of it."

According to Blockspace's report in November, customs authorities have been delaying the delivery of Bitmain's Antminer application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) since last September or earlier. This delay is related to Bitmain's chip designer, Sophgo, which was investigated by the U.S. Department of Commerce in October due to its chips ordered in Taiwan appearing in Huawei's artificial intelligence processors. Huawei has been under U.S. sanctions since 2019.

However, Sophgo denies any commercial relationship with Huawei.

Some companies have reported that customs is charging storage fees for 200 ASIC mining machines awaiting receipt, with fees exceeding $200,000, as stated by the company in November.

It is reported that ASIC mining machines from other Chinese manufacturers have not been seized by customs.

These actions by customs are said to have been taken at the request of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The timing of the release of Chinese-made Bitcoin mining machines coincides with the Trump administration's imposition of a 10% tariff on Chinese imports. President Trump's tariff plan continues to apply to neighboring countries Canada and Mexico.

China supplies 98% of the chips used in global cryptocurrency mining machines. Its largest manufacturer, Bitmain, has recently expanded its production line to the U.S. to better address delivery delays.

Bitmain stated in December that it looks forward to this initiative providing "significant support" to its industry partners.

According to a Bitcoin mining map published by ChainC, nearly 38% of the Bitcoin network's hash power is located in the U.S., and the four largest Bitcoin miners by market capitalization—MARA Holdings, Core Scientific, CleanSpark, and Riot Platforms—are also based in the U.S.
