He was once one of the brightest stars in the world of football, hailed as the "Football Elf." At his peak, he outshone Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, captivating fans with his magical skills. He was named "World Footballer of the Year" twice, with an annual income reaching 100 million dollars.
In the seven years since his retirement, the fallen Ronaldinho sought opportunities to make money around the world. This time, he set his sights on the cryptocurrency space.
2025 was a year of explosive growth for celebrity coins. After Trump led the charge by launching a coin that raked in 65 billion dollars, the First Lady coin and the Argentine President coin followed suit, with various celebrity coins emerging one after another. So when rumors spread that "Brazilian football star Ronaldinho is about to launch a coin," the market was not surprised.
On March 3, Beijing time, shortly after 6 AM, coinciding with the time of Trump's coin issuance during the US East Coast market closure, Ronaldinho announced the launch of his official token, STAR10, on Twitter.
Half an hour after his tweet, the token's market value surpassed 200 million dollars, with a single token priced at 0.28 dollars. A few hours later, Binance founder CZ and co-founder He Yi commented on and retweeted Ronaldinho's tweet, drawing even greater market attention. The token's market value rapidly increased, surpassing 350 million dollars, with the current highest price at 0.4 dollars per token, a 45.66% increase within an hour.
The reason He Yi and CZ rushed to retweet is that, unlike previous celebrity coins like Trump's, STAR10 is the first celebrity coin launched on the BNB Chain. "I have been a fan of Ronaldinho since 2005. We appreciate the launch of this token on the BNB Chain," CZ wrote.
However, the market quickly sensed something unusual. In fact, the day before the official token release (March 2), Ronaldinho had already interacted with CZ on X, retweeting CZ's post "Keep Building!" with the caption "On it!" This interaction sparked community speculation: Is the BNB Chain supporting Ronaldinho's token launch behind the scenes?
CZ stated, "There is no commercial relationship between BNB Chain (and any of its affiliates) and Ronaldinho." He reiterated that this post is not an endorsement of the token.
Allegations of Selling Social Media Account for 5 Million Dollars
At this point, Ronaldinho's token launch behavior could still be seen as not "scamming investors," until community revelations exposed deeper insider information.
According to X user @R10coin_, this former football genius was not only deeply involved in cryptocurrency speculation but also allegedly sold his X (Twitter) account for 5 million dollars to a "token issuance" team in Shenzhen to help them with false advertising and attract investors.
The origin of the matter can be traced back to May 2024, when @R10coin_ began discussing cryptocurrency cooperation plans with Ronaldinho. After six months of negotiations, they officially signed a 6 million dollar contract in January 2025. After the agreement was reached, @R10coin_ paid a 3 million dollar deposit as the first step in advancing the project.
However, unexpectedly, without notifying the partner, Ronaldinho privately signed another agreement worth 10 million dollars with a different company and received an additional 5 million dollar deposit. He then fully promoted and prepped for that company's token, completely ignoring the partnership with @R10coin. As a result, @R10coin publicly condemned Ronaldinho's fraudulent behavior, disclosing contract details and some promotional materials, and continued to reveal insider information.
This company, based in Shenzhen, China, is already notorious for manipulating the meme coin market, engaging in false advertising and a "quick cut and run" model. Their operational methods are highly deceptive: they create FOMO (fear of missing out) through social media marketing, attracting investors; rapidly inflate the coin price, pushing the market to its peak in just one hour; then quickly sell off, causing the coin price to crash, leaving investors with nothing, while the masterminds escape with the money.
Currently, Ronaldinho has not responded to the above information regarding his X account. After this insider information was exposed, Ronaldinho's token STAR10 dropped to 0.28 dollars each.
Seven Years Post-Retirement, Ronaldinho's Checkered Past
Ronaldinho, hailing from a football family in Brazil, had a father who was an amateur football player and a brother who was a professional player. Growing up in such an environment, he displayed extraordinary talent from a young age, with a love for football ingrained in his blood.
At just 13 years old, he amazed everyone in youth competitions, leading his team to victory. At that time, people may not have realized that this smiling boy, dancing with the ball, would become one of the hottest stars in football.
In 1997, at the age of 17, Ronaldinho officially stepped onto the professional stage. Two years later, he led Grêmio to win the Rio Grande do Sul Championship, rising to fame. Ronaldinho's technical style was highly entertaining, with his dribbling moves flowing like water, making matches feel like a magic show, leaving spectators in awe.
In 1998, at the age of 18, Ronaldinho signed with Grêmio, officially starting a glorious chapter in his professional career. Just a year later, he got the chance to play for the Brazilian national team in the World Cup in France. Although he was still a substitute at that time, his talent was already evident.
What truly made Ronaldinho a world-class star was the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan. In that star-studded Brazilian team, Ronaldinho was not overshadowed by superstars like Ronaldo and Rivaldo; instead, he became a key player. In the match against England, he scored a magical lob from 40 yards out, helping Brazil advance to the semifinals, and ultimately, Brazil won the championship, with Ronaldinho as a member of the World Cup-winning team.
After joining La Liga, Barcelona was in a low period, but his arrival completely changed the fate of the team. When facing Real Madrid, which had stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Beckham, and Zidane, he used his dazzling dribbling and incredible goals to make the Bernabéu fans rise to applaud him.
During his time at Barcelona, he won everything: he was named World Footballer of the Year in 2004 and 2005, surpassing peak players like Zidane and Henry; in the 2005-06 season, he led the team to win both La Liga and the Champions League, earning the title of Champions League Best Player; his advertising endorsements were everywhere, with global brands like Nike, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, and EA Sports vying to collaborate with him. In 2006, his endorsement income exceeded 19 million dollars, making him one of the highest-paid players in football.
At this point, Ronaldinho had become the soul of Barcelona's revival and a king in the world of football.
However, at the peak of his career, Ronaldinho also embarked on a path of self-destruction. He became overly indulgent, and football was no longer his sole focus; he began to indulge himself, treating nightclubs as a second home.
He spent every night in bars and parties, partying until dawn. His female companions changed constantly, from Brazilian dancers to French models and Italian stars, with scandals always surrounding him.
Alcohol became part of his daily routine, and he often missed training due to drunkenness, even starting to skip important matches. Barcelona's coach Rijkaard and his teammates repeatedly advised him, but Ronaldinho remained indifferent: "I'm still young; as long as I warm up before the game, drinking won't affect my performance."
But reality soon dealt him a heavy blow.
Alcohol, nightclubs, and lack of training led to a sharp decline in Ronaldinho's competitive state. His once lightning-fast starts and ghost-like dribbling turned into weak and failed attempts to dribble. He began to appear lazy on the field, with his goal count sharply decreasing, and fans' love for him gradually turned into disappointment.
In 2008, Barcelona could no longer tolerate him and sold him to AC Milan for 25 million euros. The former world king could only leave in disgrace.
However, after arriving in Serie A, Ronaldinho still could not maintain discipline and continued to indulge in the nightlife. The Milan management had hoped he would return to his peak, but he continued to decline, and his professional career quickly went downhill.
After leaving Milan, Ronaldinho's career entered its twilight. He had brief stints with some teams in Brazil and Mexico but could never regain his former glory. Worse still, his lavish lifestyle did not stop, but his income was far from what it used to be: failed investments, 57 properties seized by the court; his account had only 6 euros left, and he was heavily in debt; in 2021, he was arrested by police for entering Paraguay with a fake passport and detained for three months.
A generation's football elf has become a prisoner. And his money-making journey has only just begun.
Ronaldinho's "money-making map" almost covers the globe: he holds personal football training camps in Brazil, Argentina, and other places, charging exorbitant fees, but the training quality is heavily criticized, with many parents stating, "What we pay for is just his face." There have been reports that he participated in commercial activities in Spain as a "football idol," even willing to endorse any company as long as the price is high enough. In regions with wealthy clubs in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, he has also been invited as a guest, with offers that are extremely generous.
China is also one of his important markets. Every trip Ronaldinho makes to China has completely turned into a blatant money-making journey and nights filled with partying at nightclubs.
The appearance fee for a dinner: starting at 20,000 dollars. Even if he just shows up and says a few polite words, the organizers have to shell out a lot of cash.
The price for a photo with him: 20,000 yuan. Just standing next to him for a picture costs far more than an average person's monthly salary.
The cost of having dinner together: 70,000 yuan. Want to have a meal with Ronaldinho? You can, but the price is comparable to a luxury-level "celebrity experience."
Ronaldinho's business model is very simple: as long as the money is sufficient, he is willing to go anywhere and do anything.
People once thought that his path of decline had come to an end. However, today in 2025, he has once again refreshed people's perceptions—he sold his social media account to "operators" to enter the cryptocurrency space, making a quick buck by scamming investors.
From football genius to luxurious decline, and then to becoming a complete commercial tool, his name has become associated with fraud, speculation, and money-making schemes. The scam surrounding the "STAR10" token has completely tarnished his reputation, and this may just be the beginning of his schemes.
No one knows what his next plan is—perhaps he will issue new tokens? Maybe he will "fight again" in the NFT space? Or simply sell everything he has and continue to make money solely based on his "celebrity effect"? But one thing is certain: he can no longer return to those peak moments on the football field.
It is said that Ronaldinho is about to become a grandfather; at the end of last year, his son announced that his girlfriend was pregnant. Now, at 44 years old, Ronaldinho is no longer young and looks quite haggard.
The football legend that belonged to Ronaldinho has come to an end. And now, what remains for the world, apart from his brilliant samba-style play, are just repeated "money-making" schemes and scattered remnants of his past.
