Recently, I've been reading books on Buddhism 📚 and would like to share my insights!
First of all, I finally understand why so many top students from Tsinghua and Peking University go to Longquan Temple in Beijing to become monks. When you see the essence through the phenomena, the worldly troubles and the struggle for power and profit are nothing but the disturbances of the sensory mind. However, the essence of time is quantum entanglement, and the essence of living beings is energy particles, which ultimately will all be annihilated. The ultimate essence of the universe also leads to extinction, so the final conclusion is that life may be meaningless!
When we pursue our lives, we are merely solving the fundamental issues of "survival and reproduction." When we ultimately understand the essence of annihilation, what is the meaning of survival and reproduction? Therefore, Buddhism often teaches us 'meditation.' Walking is meditation, sitting is meditation, speaking and silence, movement and stillness, all are serene. Because by being aware of the present moment, you will feel happiness and ease. But happiness and ease cannot be empirically proven, as they are subjective feelings rather than objective facts. Just like when you like someone, you only like the feeling they bring to your heart because they can provide emotional value of happiness, which often is not the fact itself. When you start arguing with each other, you may dislike the other person for a while because, at that moment, the subjective feeling of the other person in your heart is unhappy, leading you to dislike them. But this is not true liking! Because liking must start from the essence of 'the person,' rather than being influenced by the external projections that affect personal judgment (I wonder if everyone understands this statement)!
Why do I find trading cryptocurrencies painful now? This may require quoting a line from the TV series "Tian Dao": "The huge profits from stocks do not arise from management but from the speculation of the stock market itself. Its driving force is to transfer the money from your pocket to mine, and its rule is to fill the mouths of a few wolves with the flesh of the majority. Private equity funds take meat from the wolves' mouths, which requires you to be darker and harsher than the wolves, but the psychological cost is also higher, and there is an additional risk outside the stock market, so one must know when to stop."
In fact, the cryptocurrency market is the same now; the psychological cost of making money is very high. You may not be aware of it now, but one day in the future, it will wake you up in your nightmares because this is karmic retribution. The benefit of Buddhism is that we can alleviate the karmic obstacles accumulated in this life and previous lives through good relationships, good thoughts, and good deeds. This is also the reason why I took refuge early and insist on meditation every morning and evening.
At the same time, knowing when to stop is very important; 'stopping' is a form of wisdom! Just like the 32-character proverb I wrote about the cryptocurrency market:
Bright but not dazzling, still waters run deep,
Knowing others is intelligence, knowing oneself is enlightenment!
Coexisting with the dust, adapting to the times,
Contentment brings no disgrace, knowing when to stop brings no danger.
Knowing when to stop brings no danger; it is a great wisdom. Cycles repeat, opportunities are eternal and immortal, but like Buffett, who has remained consistent for over 60 years, one must know contentment and the great wisdom of knowing when to stop!
Another insight is: you do not know yourself, so you are you; if you know you are you, then you are no longer you. This statement is profound and mysterious. We share similar educational backgrounds, common cultural attributes, and shared humanity. This is an attribute of objective laws that is difficult to change, leading to the saying that dragons give birth to dragons and phoenixes give birth to phoenixes; the offspring of moles will dig holes. Sometimes, it is hard for us to break through existing circles, which is caused by fixed thinking patterns. We see many people from the lower strata suddenly becoming wealthy, but they quickly return to poverty because their personal operating systems are incompatible with higher financial distributions. However, there are rare exceptions that can break through, but this process is like being reborn, incredibly torturous. For example, Wang Shi, who climbed Mount Everest and studied at Harvard University, etc. During the glorious period of real estate, knowing when to stop and retiring from fame is great wisdom!
So, as long as it is not something I perceive or realize, you cannot give it to me; even if you do, I cannot hold onto it. Only what I perceive and realize is possible for me to achieve, and what I can achieve is mine! This is a process of 'knowing others is intelligence, knowing oneself is enlightenment'!
When many people see this result, they may feel very pessimistic. Including myself, I know that the current situation is my 'I am my limit,' and it is difficult to break through. Therefore, I want to pursue a PhD in the United States to seek the process of 'if you know you are you, then you are no longer you.' But the cost is also very high; although it may not be a complete rebirth, the desire to care for parents who may not wait, as well as the connections and relationships accumulated over many years with friends and family, will all be severed. Going to a new environment and field to reconnect and create is a cost of seeking 'if you know you are you, then you are no longer you.'
Finally, I will conclude with a quote from "The Distant Savior." The so-called true scripture is the ultimate path to achieve emptiness and nirvana, which can be realized but not practiced. Cultivation leads to Buddhahood, while seeking leads to enlightenment. Cultivation is to regulate nature through action; enlightenment is to apply nature in action. The awakened are governed by the heart; the practitioners regulate the heart with rules. Those who do not fall into evil results have faith but no proof, reside in cause and effect, reside in thought and heart, thus is birth and death. Those who do not taste cause and effect have no residence and reside, no desire and no non-desire, no precepts and no non-precepts, thus is nirvana!
I hope everyone can seek their own 'nirvana,' which holds more significance than countless wealth, reflecting the top-level values of Maslow's hierarchy of needs! 🙏 Grateful
