🧐 Safe is not Safe, in the WEB3 dark forest, there is no absolute Safe, are you Safe?
Everyone should constantly think about how to protect their assets.
Astonished by the extent of the WEB3 dark forest, hundreds of billions of assets are placed in a
Bybit's official mid-term report on the $1.5 billion theft incident (provided by Sygnia) shows that this theft incident was caused by vulnerabilities in Safe's infrastructure, primarily due to an attack on the Safe frontend!
The question arises:
Can Safe afford to compensate for this $1.5 billion? Is the assets of others in Safe also unsafe?
The horror lies here:
If the Safe frontend can be attacked, theoretically, all Apps and Dapps are at risk of being attacked,
Especially those high-value deposit protocols and various staking and restaking LSTs. As far as I know, a large portion of applications even have their frontends outsourced, just to raise funds and accumulate a paper-thin space in the short term,
Wrapping billions of assets, if the hiring standards are not strict enough, it may allow North Korean hackers to take advantage of the situation, this part is simply the most tempting bait for hackers!
We have at least gained three insights:
1️⃣ Do not blindly trust authority; sometimes authority may not fully understand or see everything (Safe is also highly recommended by Vitalik).
2️⃣ The security of smart contracts does not equate to absolute security. Carefully consider where to store your large funds, and whether the safety of on-chain finance and staking should be reassessed. Always pay attention to the protocols where you deposit funds, whether they have regular audits and updates, and learn to respect your wealth!
3️⃣ Simple things are more important than complex ones, sometimes the more you need to secure large assets, the simpler and more traditional methods you should use to preserve them, hence the value of Bitcoin is still highlighted!
