Unity and Responsibility in the Crypto Industry | The Spirit of Cooperation and the Future of the Industry as Seen in the Bybit Hacking Incident
According to the latest statistics from SoSoValue and monitoring data from the on-chain security team TenArmor, the Bybit trading platform has seen over $4 billion in inflows in the past 12 hours, covering all stolen funds losses;
This means that @Bybit_Official has officially navigated through this crisis safely!
Yesterday, @benbybit handled public relations excellently under significant pressure, and I think applause is in order!
At the same time, we see more of the industry coming together in solidarity, which is reassuring;
In the early days of this industry, when it was not yet established, people might have been filled with panic and fought a life-and-death battle against each other.
However, now that the industry has matured, more people are willing to lend a helping hand to their peers in times of difficulty;
Elon Musk understands that sharing all the technology of Tesla and open-sourcing new energy is about expanding the pie.
This reasoning is simple: only by working together to make the pie bigger can more opportunities and benefits arise. This is not a zero-sum game; the current landscape is clear, and I believe that anyone who can achieve such scale has a broad vision.
So when the crisis arose yesterday, whether it was BG, Binance, or any other exchange, whether it was @czbinance, @heyibinance, or @starokx, everyone was willing to extend a helping hand. Anyone can encounter hardship, but as long as one is not acting maliciously, I believe that helping others with integrity is beyond doubt;
CZ's suggestion to temporarily suspend withdrawals seems to be the best advice from his perspective after careful consideration, but unfortunately, it has been widely circulated today as an attack on someone in distress.
Seeing this scene feels somewhat bleak;
As @evilcos just mentioned: everyone should not confuse priorities. In the absence of clear reasons for the attack, CZ's proposal to pause withdrawals is also correct;
Because in uncertain circumstances, it is perfectly fine to prepare everything and then open withdrawals in a timely manner. I believe CZ's suggestion comes from a sincere place. If we think from his perspective, someone at his level of status and wealth is likely thinking more about peace and harmony, right? They are thinking more about how to contribute to the industry and even to humanity, rather than engaging in malicious acts. If the mindset is so low, I do not believe CZ could have stood firm for so many years and supported such a large industry as Binance!
Therefore, I see many people today holding onto this point with deep disdain, which I truly cannot understand! In a dark forest, with the unknown ahead, any decision made or suggestion given to @benbybit, or anyone daring to offer advice, is an act of bravery. At that time, keyboard warriors, aside from reveling in misfortune, were mostly just watching from the sidelines. And now, with the real enemy, North Korean hackers, here robbing at will, we are instead fueling internal strife within the industry, which is truly tragic!
From my perspective, the Bybit hacking incident is not only a significant security challenge for the crypto industry but also a touchstone for the unity and maturity of the industry. Despite the enormous losses, the support and cooperative spirit demonstrated by industry leaders, through technical support, advice, and resource sharing, rather than cold indifference, marks a shift in the crypto industry from early zero-sum games to a future of win-win cooperation.
This transformation not only helps a single platform overcome difficulties but also establishes a stronger risk resistance capability for the entire industry.
