Apps have really evolved quickly. In the first generation of the internet, Chinese companies were all about copying to China, like NetEase and Sohu, and even the later superpower Tencent QQ was just a copy of ICQ - I used that software and found it very useful 😂.
The second generation of the mobile internet brought us super apps like Taobao, JD, WeChat, Meituan, and Didi, which are basically on par with Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, etc. in the U.S., each with its own strengths and weaknesses.
In the third generation of AI, China has started to take the lead, mainly thanks to ByteDance, which has significantly raised the level of Chinese apps. The main function of AI is recommendation, the so-called "personalized experience."
Now it feels like we are in the fourth generation… I believe that with the continuous evolution of AI, apps will evolve again, and not just in terms of recommendation features like Douyin, but they should become even smarter apps…
Imagine an app that knows you inside out, helps you manage your money, provides you with emotional value… what more could you want?
Final conclusion: The birth rate is going to drop to zero 😂.
