I still clearly remember January 26, 2020, when I woke up from my sleep to see the news of Kobe's passing. My mind went blank, and I could hardly feel the existence of time. Although I was surrounded by the joyful atmosphere of the Spring Festival, that day seemed to be filled with bad news. The COVID-19 pandemic still dominated the headlines, and the sudden death of Kobe, who was idolized by many (including myself), became an eternal memory of that day.

Kobe's influence on those born in the 80s and 90s is undeniable, and I am one of them. He accompanied me throughout my youth, and it was because of Kobe that I fell in love with basketball. It was also because of him that I deeply remembered the inspiring words, "Have you ever seen Los Angeles at 4 a.m.?"

I took basketball as a hobby and never thought about becoming a professional athlete. But every time I stepped onto the court, I would tell myself to play like Kobe—treating winning as a belief, giving my all, and focusing on my role in the game.

Due to my slender build and lack of shooting skills, I couldn't become a versatile scorer like Kobe. So, I focused on defense. I was knocked to the ground by opponents much larger than me and was outmaneuvered by highly talented players. Every defensive play was not easy, but I knew I had to do what the team needed me to do—even if it was just being a defensive player. Even if I got knocked down or outplayed, I wouldn't let my opponent score easily.

Many people cannot achieve the self-discipline to practice at 4 a.m. like Kobe, nor do they possess his natural leadership qualities. But I believe everyone should do their best in the roles that life or work assigns to us. Even if, like me, you are just a defensive player, you are still an indispensable part of the team. Winning is a belief, and that is the spiritual power of an idol. #Kobe Bryant
