Hackathon Summary

The Trustworthy AI Lab x GES UCLA Hackathon showcased innovative solutions from nine projects registered by 21 developers. This virtual event took place from May 29 to June 28, 2024, focusing on using predictive models to enhance user engagement and advertising effectiveness. Two detailed datasets provided insights into user demographics and interactions, laying the groundwork for platforms that facilitate collaboration between content creators and advertisers while ensuring a positive user experience.

Judged by academics (such as Professor Guang Cheng) and industry experts from companies like Amazon, Snap, and Intel, the projects were evaluated. The total prize pool was $1,500, distributed among the top solutions based on criteria such as accuracy, innovation, scalability, and efficiency. Additionally, the event offered summer internship opportunities at UCLA's Trustworthy AI Lab, allowing participants to further develop their skills. While emphasizing practical applications, projects were required to provide runnable machine learning code and presentation slides, with the ultimate goal of seeking scalable innovative solutions that respect data privacy and support real-time performance.

• DataGuardians excelled in secure data processing, achieving a balance between data security and usability by creating synthetic datasets using VMs and GANs.

Second Place

• Team BitBuilders developed a data-sharing platform based on generative AI, enhancing predictive analytics and data collaboration through privacy-preserving technologies and advanced encryption.

Third Place

• Team Datacrafters focused on advertising data analysis using machine learning and automated DCR security improvements, optimizing model performance for statistical insights.

Fourth Place

• Awesome Team Name's BUIDL utilized TPM for secure data modeling, emphasizing the reliability and confidentiality of data operations.

Fifth Place

• ColumbiAI improved the accuracy of scientific predictions through secure generative AI, establishing a "data clean room" for privacy-preserving collaborative data analysis.
