Hackathon Summary

DivHacks 2024: Tech for Social Good was held at Columbia University in New York from October 5 to 6, 2024. This Hackathon attracted developers who co-created 64 projects, showcasing their commitment to enhancing technical and soft skills while addressing social issues.

Key tracks included education, environment, media, fashion, civic tech, and health. Sponsored tracks were supported by organizations such as Capital One, Google, and the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative, focusing on financial solutions, creative technology, and patient safety. The MLH-supported tracks included projects involving MongoDB, domain names, and DEI hacking.

The event aimed to develop impactful solutions in areas such as sustainability, civic engagement, and healthcare. The themes attracted a diverse range of innovative projects, reinforcing the goal of using technology to serve society. Platforms like DoraHacks, Discord, and related websites provided essential resources for participant interaction. By bringing together students interested in social good technology, the Hackathon emphasized creative BUIDLs and encouraged future collaboration.

• StrokePlayAR - An AR application utilizing Snap's Spectacles to gamify activities that promote stroke rehabilitation, enhancing mobility and health.

• SynapsED - A financial literacy platform designed to help young people build wealth and break intergenerational financial cycles by encouraging early investment habits.

• Penny Pals - A financial literacy platform that teaches investment through simulation, where parents fund accounts and children make decisions based on real-time market data. The platform promotes collaboration, risk management, and healthy financial habits, with plans for future iMessage integration and parental controls.

• Environment: Pothos - A SaaS platform for small businesses that optimizes loans linked to sustainability using KPIs and NFT-secured contracts to promote sustainable development.

• Fashion: Fashion Faeries - A web application providing personalized clothing recommendations and resale comparisons, using machine learning to promote sustainable fashion.
