Hackathon Summary
SC QUANTATHON V1 was held at the Darla Moore School of Business in Columbia, South Carolina. From October 10 to 13, 2024, developers gathered to innovate, submitting a total of 14 projects. Prior to this, a virtual qBraid training camp was held from September 16 to October 9. The event featured a welcome reception, team challenges, project presentations, and a unique quantum music production workshop. Notable attendees included Eric Powers from the University of South Carolina and Joe Queenan from SC Quantum, highlighting the event's focus on quantum computing challenges and innovations.
Participants enjoyed meals provided by local vendors that catered to various dietary needs. The Hackathon concluded with an awards ceremony on October 13, aimed at promoting innovation and collaboration in the field of quantum computing. This goal was achieved through the active participation and contributions of academia and industry professionals.
Hackathon Award Winners
Grand Prize Winners
This team developed a quantum random number generator utilizing IBM QPU. They implemented Concatenation and Reduce XOR algorithms, analyzed the effects of decoherence, and enhanced entropy using Toeplitz and Von Neumann methods for practical QRNG applications.
DoraHacks Challenge Winners
Xanadu Challenge Winners
This project calculated the spectral gap of carbon monoxide using VQE and VQD on the Pennylane platform. The computation was completed in under five minutes through adaptive quantum gate pruning, maintaining a 4% accuracy deviation after parameter optimization.
IonQ Challenge Winners
This team improved the quantum layer in an image classification system by integrating quantum elements into a classical machine learning pipeline. They showcased their research findings and provided detailed documentation online to advance the development of hybrid machine learning applications that incorporate quantum principles.
