Today I saw many friends asking me about the impact of the Trump hush money case, specifically whether it will affect Trump's ability to smoothly complete the transition of power to become the 47th President of the United States.
I researched a lot of information and concluded that it will not affect Trump's transition of power. On one hand, although Trump has been found guilty, the presiding judge has clearly stated that he will not impose any imprisonment or probation on Trump, but will choose to release him unconditionally. This means that even with a verdict in place, Trump will not face any direct criminal sanctions.
Secondly, Trump still has the opportunity to appeal, for example, by filing a lawsuit in the New York State Supreme Court or federal court. These procedures may continue to delay the final resolution of the case, and during this time, he can still complete the presidential transition, and once completed, he will enjoy presidential immunity.
Finally, under the U.S. Constitution, a president can only be removed from office in the case of impeachment and conviction by the Senate. Although Trump's current case is related to criminal justice, it does not touch upon the impeachment process. Therefore, this case will not have a direct impact on his presidential eligibility.
So from the above three perspectives, Trump's transition of power will not be affected by this case at least.
