And it's not even close.

Zooming in to a 30-day window to account for the volatility of newly launched AI tokens, we see the same outperformance by AI agents, up by 75%.

I compare memecoins to AI agents for a few reasons:

First, the memecoin bull season gained momentum as a counter-movement against low-float, high-FDV VC tokens.

Most AI agents have taken these lessons to heart and are launching with little or no VC funding.

More importantly, many AI agent tokens launch similarly to memecoins on platforms like Pumpdotfun or AI incubation sites like Virtuals, where they start trading at a low market cap, allowing early buyers to profit from growth.

Without memecoin counter movement, the AI agent meta could've been very, very different.

Very grateful to memecoins for that. Truly.

Secondly, I believe AI agents are live, self-updating cultural or even cultist memes. With a touch of utility.

Like @aixbt_agent keeps adapting to current narratives and topics of the day.

They are also crypto native vs OG memecoins that are cultural imports from Web2 (except for the few, like $PENGU )

OG memecoins, in contrast, are stagnant and require constant human community shilling to keep them relevant/alive.

Like @redphonecrypto puts it, "nothing feels more tired than memecoins."

Finally, AI agents manage to capture attention from memecoins and liquidity flows accordingly.

I notice this happening personally:

I have a degen hot-wallet portfolio where I trade on a whim, chasing hot narratives I see on X.

Without realizing, all my memecoin portfolio became AI agent portfolio and it's up by considerable amount now.

If I held those memecoins, I would be down bad.

So, is it an AI Agent supercycle or a simple narrative rotation?

@redphonecrypto 2025 predicts that “Regular” memecoins launch agentic mascots/spokesbots (or they begin their slow decline into irrelevance).

A bold prediction, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens.

My money goes with the AI agents. For now.
