As the end of the year approaches, the fourth round of the AEZ Quadratic Grant program has successfully concluded. In this round, several highly innovative projects joined the funding list. We are also pleased to see that community participation in the MACI voting phase has reached a new high, marking that the voting results from the Cosmos community will have a significant impact on the allocation of the funding pool.
Currently, the fifth round of funding has officially started. Let us continue to support public goods projects through the AEZ Quadratic Grant program in the new year, promoting the vigorous development of the Cosmos ecosystem.
How to Fund Public Goods: Governance Mechanism Design and Iteration of AEZ Quadratic Grant
As a staunch supporter of Cosmos, DoraHacks focuses on the development of underlying tools, infrastructure, and funding mechanisms to achieve democratic and fair community governance within the Cosmos ecosystem. Based on this, DoraHacks initiated the ATOM Economic Zone (AEZ) Quadratic Grant program to fund public goods and application chain projects within the Cosmos ecosystem - highlighting DoraHacks' support for long-term projects and commitment to the healthy development of the Cosmos ecosystem. The AEZ funding program was initially funded by on-chain node revenues; later, with the passage of Cosmos Governance Proposal 917, the Cosmos Hub and Atom Accelerator (AADAO) provided funding to support the continuous operation of this program for 10 rounds, further expanding the public goods funding capacity of this program.
Quadratic Funding (QF) and Minimal Anti-Collusion Infrastructure (MACI) are the core governance tools developed by DoraHacks for the AEZ community, determining the funding allocation for each round of the AEZ grant program. These mechanisms promote fairness and privacy in voting, ensuring direct community participation in key decision-making processes while mitigating the influence of large stakeholders (whales), thus ensuring the democratic distribution of resources. Each round of the AEZ grant program is divided into two parts of the funding pool; the first part's allocation is determined by QF results, allowing anyone to participate in supporting any project; the second part's funding is allocated based on the results of MACI voting, which is freely open to all ATOM stakers, and DoraHacks' voting system directly covers the on-chain voting transaction fees.
In the fourth round of the AEZ Quadratic Grant, a total of 340 donors participated, and their choices directly determined the allocation of the 8,000 ATOM funding pool. Here, we would like to congratulate Ark Protocol, La Multisig, and jetWallet for securing the first, second, and third places in the community voting, respectively! The complete results and leaderboard can be viewed here.
At the same time, the results of this round's MACI voting determined the allocation of a 31,111 USDC prize pool. Thanks to all ATOM stakers and the entire Cosmos community for their enthusiastic participation; we received a total of 174 registrations. We also want to congratulate all funded teams—especially the new project jetWallet, which topped the voting with a 34.6% vote rate!
Additionally, in the fourth round of funding, DoraHacks upgraded the overall infrastructure of the AEZ grant program, providing users with a more intuitive and user-friendly voting UI, phase timelines, funding data displays, and project showcase UI. As the funding program continues to develop and community participation increases, the infrastructure of the AEZ grant program will also continue to iterate and improve.
What is the AEZ Long-term Quadratic Grant?
With the passage of Cosmos Governance Proposal 917, 80,000 ATOM will be used to fund the long-term funding program AEZ Quadratic Grant for public goods and application chains initiated by DoraHacks in the AEZ (ATOM Economic Zone). This funding is further supported by an additional 200,000 USDC provided by AADAO and 100,000 USDC from Dora Factory. These three funds together constitute the funding pool for the AEZ Quadratic Grant for 10 rounds (Round 2 - Round 11).
The funding pool of the AEZ Quadratic Grant focuses on supporting early public goods and application chain construction in the ecosystem. The funding program starts with ecological infrastructure, working with developers to promote the robust development of the Cosmos ecosystem. All applying projects need to submit a Round commitment to explain the expected use of the grant for this round and the development plan for the next two months. After a rigorous selection and review process, selected projects will be invited to join the project demo for that round to showcase their project content and development plans to the community, with the final allocation of the funding pool determined by the community's on-chain quadratic funding and MACI quadratic voting results.
