Make Games Great Again?

Eager for cross-industry ventures, Musk is at it again! This time, he plans to leverage his xAI to establish an AI game studio.

Today, Musk retweeted a comment by Dogecoin's Shibetoshi Nakamoto regarding the current gaming industry and seriously announced the establishment of an AI game studio to "make games great again."

Does this slogan sound familiar?

That's right! After helping Trump establish the "Department of Efficiency," Minister Musk seems to have tasted the sweetness of power, and the tech giants that were previously in competition with Musk are likely to be affected in the future.

However, unlike tech giants, American gaming companies are relatively low-key, so why is Musk venturing into the gaming industry?

Correcting Political Correctness: A New Form of Political Correctness

In fact, as early as last month, Musk tweeted: "We need a video game player voting block! Make games great again!"

This tweet sparked discussions about whether Musk would enter the gaming industry.

At that time, the overseas gaming industry was already tired of the wave opposing "political correctness" in games. This included controversies surrounding the Japanese Black Samurai character in IGN's "Black Myth: Wukong" and Ubisoft's new title "Assassin's Creed: Mirage," as well as Sony's LGBT new title "Starfall" which faced immediate backlash upon launch. It was then that people realized that the LGBT and DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) movements had not boosted game sales but rather led to a decline in game quality.

Coincidentally, Musk himself is a victim of LGBT issues—his son’s transition has led to a rift between them, which has fueled Musk's disdain for American LGBT culture.

Of course, aside from personal reasons, Musk is also a supporter of Trump's campaign, and entering the gaming industry could be seen as a way to rally player votes, especially since there are many voices in the gaming community opposing the influence of political correctness.

In addition to Shibetoshi Nakamoto's tweet, well-known overseas blogger Mario Nawfal also posted a critique of the gaming industry's excessive emphasis on DEI content.

He pointed out that two games launched this year focusing on DEI elements—"Starfall" and "Dust Road Journey"—performed poorly in the market. Among them, "Starfall" faced significant setbacks, while the domestic game "Black Myth: Wukong" achieved great success.

Mario Nawfal candidly stated that game developers should recognize that what players truly need is high-quality game content, not ideologies imposed on games.

In response, Musk liked the post.

Currently, as "correcting political correctness" becomes a mainstream direction, it is, in fact, another form of "political correctness."

If Musk's studio can indeed create a new game focused on content, regardless of its quality, Musk's fame alone could attract a wave of attention.

AI + Gaming: The Next Hotspot

In fact, Musk is an avid gamer himself and often shares gaming-related content on Twitter.

At the age of 13, he created a video game using 123 lines of BASIC and some simple assembly language, naming it "Blastar," which eventually earned him $500.

Thus, given Musk's extensive cross-industry investment portfolio, his investment in the gaming industry is not surprising.

One point to note is that Musk's AI game studio is based on his xAI, utilizing generative AI.

Currently, almost all major gaming companies are exploring "AI + Gaming," which involves using AI to generate materials or gameplay based on traditional game structures.

However, in reality, whether traditional gaming giants or new-generation game developers, the enhancement brought by AI to games is not significant; most improvements are merely in the efficiency of material updates.

As for AI's enhancement of gameplay, it does not increase users' "willingness to pay" and may even affect the experience of existing game features.

In contrast, xAI, as a "pure" AI company, does not need to consider the commercial value of games and can maximize the use of the company's AI resources, making it a path that no one has explored.
