In the recently concluded Devcon series of events, Ethereum founder Vitalik delivered a keynote speech on Rollup Day with the theme "How Ethereum technology is ready to support applications with large-scale adoption while maintaining decentralization," stating, "There is more to offer in the blockchain world."
Developers are undoubtedly a crucial force driving the blockchain industry forward. Code is law! The applications built through countless lines of code add infinite possibilities to the entire on-chain world. The question of How to build smarter? may be a persistent consideration for most Web3 on-chain developers during their building process. With curiosity and a sense of mission, OKLink engaged in close dialogues with developers at the Bangkok Devcon and surrounding events over the past week, seeking answers from the perspective of data infrastructure builders.
Talk with 200+ Devs
To gain a deeper understanding of developers' needs, we collected feedback from over 200 users through face-to-face communication and surveys at the AltLayer Rollup Day event.
Q1: What is the biggest challenge you face in building a public chain?
Most developers chose the lack of comprehensive data tools, the time and resource intensity of building on-chain solutions, and the challenges of cross-platform integration and compatibility.
Therefore, being able to obtain multi-chain data in one place and achieve seamless cross-platform integration will significantly save development costs and reduce the time spent on development.
Q2: Do you believe that powerful multi-chain data tools designed for easy integration can help simplify the development process? 97% of developers are confident about the emergence and application of such multi-chain tools. Especially in today's rapidly advancing AI technology, agile and intelligent development is no longer an insurmountable challenge.
Contract comparison, bytecode decompilation, and tools for real-time tracking of on-chain dynamics are widely used by developers on a daily basis.
Q3: How important is it to adopt solutions that allow developers to focus on innovation rather than infrastructure building? 69% of developers consider it crucial, 19% consider it important, while 9% of users hold a neutral stance. The process of solidifying the foundation from 0 to 1 is indeed important, and a solid underlying infrastructure is a prerequisite for innovation.
Q4: Considering your development experience, do you think that building smarter is more effective than building harder? 84% of respondents believe that smart building is more important, as it allows for sustained competitiveness in a rapidly evolving on-chain environment.
Build smarter, not harder. Perhaps this is the grand topic pursued by Web3 developers.
Vitalik's Talk During the speech segment at Rollup Day, Vitalik attended and stated that the goal Ethereum pursues is to balance decentralization and usability based on Rollup-related data.
He also reminded all community partners to pay attention to user account security, which can be ensured through personal hardware devices, family and friends, and some special guardianship methods. According to OKLink statistics, in Q3 2024, the total losses on the entire network amounted to approximately $743 million, an increase of 58% compared to the previous period. A total of 110 major attack incidents occurred, including 61 cases of fraud and phishing, resulting in losses of _$340 million, accounting for _46.03%_ of the total losses._ On-chain security should always be taken seriously, and developers and Web3 users should constantly pay attention to their account security during the building process.
Finally, he stated, "We can create applications that are both mainstream-friendly and decentralized-friendly at the same time. Many tools already exist, and more are in development."
How to build smarter?
Following up on the concerns raised by developers, OKLink provided a comprehensive introduction to the supported ecosystem and tools on-site, hoping to assist developers in achieving the goal of "more agile and convenient on-chain development."
Multi-chain Support
Developers no longer need to worry about the inability to find tools to obtain multi-chain data. Currently, the OKLink browser and its API tools support over 55 mainstream blockchain explorers, parsing over 200+ chains, effectively addressing the issues of cross-platform integration and compatibility faced by developers.
Moreover, this multi-chain support ecosystem is rapidly and widely expanding, continuously increasing support for popular chains and functions in the L2 and Bitcoin ecosystems with efficiency and speed.
Developer-Friendly Tools
"To do a good job, one must first sharpen one's tools." Various easily accessible tools without additional charges can help developers reduce costs and increase efficiency, allowing them to unleash their creativity without worries. This includes browser APIs, bytecode decompilation, contract comparison, decoding, and debugging tools.
Additionally, the OKLink official website includes a wealth of popular topics, such as BTC halving, Ethereum L2 data dashboards, trending projects, and more. With these key information references, developers and Web3 users can directly access research results and packaged real-time data reports, making it a win-win situation. The aforementioned tools and features can be easily accessed from the homepage by clicking on the nine small dot icons in the upper right corner.
EaaS & RaaS Solutions For builders of public chains, a zero-cost blockchain explorer solution can open a window for on-chain data querying and intuitive display. EaaS (Explorer-as-a-Service) offers various features that development teams are interested in:
✅ Feature-rich blockchain explorer: A comprehensive and rich toolkit that allows users to freely explore blockchain transactions, smart contracts, and network analysis;
✅ Multi-chain data: View multi-chain assets, transactions, and addresses with one click, and set private address labels;
✅ Powerful search engine: One-click search for important information such as addresses, blocks, NFTs, etc. across chains;
✅ Smart contract verification: View contract details, perform contract verification, and read/write interactions;
✅ Robust API services: Utilize scalable, comprehensive, and reliable API services to support your blockchain;
✅ One-stop service: One-click access to industry-leading wallets, DEXs, and NFT markets.
Currently, OKLink has partnered with leading Rollup projects such as AltLayer, Caldera, and Lumoz to jointly build solutions.
Direct dialogue with developers has provided us with more inspiration regarding on-chain data mining and refining leading tools. OKLink is always with developers, striving to "Build smarter, not harder," and forge the future of Web3.
