Understanding DeSci in One Article — More Impressive than AI Memes?!

I heavily invested in goat at 200 million and then in pnut at 350 million on Binance, both yielding great returns.

This time, I noticed the DeSci track early but entered the market a bit late. After all, intuitively, this track feels like "just another hype." The crypto market is a crazy and foolish place; even a simple image shared by a community official can lead to a harvest.

Every day, there’s hype, and I’ve long been immune to the usual hype; it seems that not researching won’t cause me to miss anything.

However, precisely because it’s hard to understand, it aligns with my frequent saying: “Those in the car don’t understand, and those who understand haven’t gotten in the car.” Just because it’s hard to understand doesn’t mean it can’t be understood. I can explain it to you in 10 minutes, and you might have a different feeling after reading it.

1. Background of DeSci

DeSci, or decentralized science, uses blockchain technology to break traditional barriers in scientific research. In the past, monetizing research took a long time and faced issues like funding shortages, uneven resource distribution, and poor sharing of results.

Ordinary people can’t see it, but CZ stands at a high level and knows that many geniuses lack opportunities and support. The high speculation of blockchain gives DeSci a chance to develop — it’s like the development of the U.S., which cannot be separated from Wall Street under the sycamore tree, a market full of speculation. The essence of the stock market is to use a speculative market to drive the realization of value.

The combination of DeSci and the crypto world actually complements each other:

The crypto world is highly speculative, and everyone loves money;

The research world has zero speculation, with everyone working hard, possibly yielding zero results for decades, while countless talents contribute silently, lacking funding and support.

So, what if we connect the two? Those who love money come for money, supporting ideals; those who love science have money to use, gaining development.

When DeSci makes science more prosperous, research results change the world, and the resulting profits can also feed back into the crypto world — whether it brings mainstream attention or continuous external empowerment, it’s all beneficial.

These logics have not been widely noticed, after all, how to achieve it? Is it just another round of boasting?

2. Major Events

Recently, several seemingly independent yet closely related events have occurred:

  1. Binance announces exclusive investment in BIO Protocol

This is a DeSci protocol and tech company. The purpose of this protocol is to use blockchain technology to change the financing and commercialization methods of early scientific research.

Early research financing? The crypto world is not short of money; how will the commercialization method change? Let’s see what Binance Labs says: “BIO can be seen as the Y Combinator of on-chain science.”

Y Combinator is the world’s top incubator, with the total value of its top 100 startups exceeding $100 billion, including Airbnb, Coinbase, Stripe, Reddit, and more.

Compared to the current system that relies on central institutions for research and funding, decentralized science or DeSci aims to obtain research investment through crowdfunding initiatives and decentralized ownership.

The BIO platform enables scientists, patients, and investors worldwide to fund, develop, and co-own new drugs through a biotechnology DAO, filling the funding gap in traditional science, especially in areas like rare diseases, longevity, and emerging health challenges.

The existing network of BIO consists of seven “BioDAOs” operating on the Ethereum blockchain, with plans to expand to Solana and other blockchains in the first quarter of 2025.

These DAOs are fundamentally different from traditional DAOs in the crypto world. For example, VitaDAO, which is dedicated to funding and advancing early longevity research, has received support from the venture capital arm of global pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, and is currently researching longevity and cancer resistance.

Pfizer’s current market value is $145 billion, comparable to OpenAI, which was valued at $150 billion in its latest funding round.

  1. CZ’s new direction: AI and Biotechnology

After CZ was released from prison, he gave an interview discussing future directions. His exact words were:

“Now I’m mainly doing two things: one is Google Academy, and the other is investment. The investment focuses mainly on blockchain, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology.”

Investing in blockchain is natural, but the focus on artificial intelligence and biotechnology is noteworthy. The artificial intelligence mentioned may refer to traditional AI, but it will certainly include the combination of AI and artificial intelligence, and Binance has already launched ACT.

So, what biotechnology targets are worth paying attention to? Which leader is at the forefront? Let’s hold off on that for now and first look at CZ’s movements.

On November 13, Binance founder CZ posted on social platform X, “Learning at a small DeSci entrepreneur gathering organized by Binance Labs,” along with a photo of himself with Vitalik.

(In the photo, the media followin’s CMO is between CZ and Vitalik, indicating that this gathering wasn’t so “small.”)

At this event, Vitalik also showed CZ the first longevity product from VitaDAO — VD001, a natural high-dose spermidine supplement approved by the Thai FDA. CZ expressed his hope to see 1,000 DeSci projects next year.

  1. Binance’s official account releases a report renaming DeSci

The report mainly explores what decentralized science is, listing several examples, including academic publishing, research funding, data sharing, and collaboration, etc.

What this reflects is Binance’s attention to this track — Binance’s research reports are generally closely related to new listings on Binance.

The original report can be found here: https://bit.ly/bnrif

So, where are the opportunities in DeSci, and which targets should be speculated on?

3. The Main Line of DeSci

The recent explosion of DeSci can actually be traced back to the movements of CZ and Binance, so to speculate on DeSci, one must grasp the main line and understand the main contradictions, namely: cling tightly to Binance and CZ.

The main line can be simply outlined as follows:

  1. Binance’s investment in the BIO protocol

This has gone through two rounds of fundraising, raising 33 million in total. I also participated in the second round, but this is essentially the value token of the protocol; it’s still early for listing, and it’s normal for it to be listed on Binance in the future.

  1. Sub-DAOs of the BIO protocol

The most well-known among them is VitaDAO (the BIO protocol itself was initiated by members of VitaDAO). To promote DeSci, the BIO protocol has created a token issuance platform at http://pump.science.

This token issuance platform is completely different from http://pump.fun; it’s not just about issuing tokens whenever one wants, but it must be strongly related to scientific experiments.

As of now, there are only two projects: one called $rif and the other $uro, both of which are in the life sciences that CZ has been focusing on.

Behind these experiments is Pfizer, which has invested in VitaDAO, a global pharmaceutical giant with a market value comparable to OpenAI. The progress of these two experiments is synchronized on the website, strongly linking them to the tokens.

Thus, the third token for the platform is still far off and completely depends on the experiments, but one can predict that in the future, the platform may have countless new drugs coming out, but the tokens that will receive the most attention will be $rif and $uro; they should also have continuous advantages in terms of research and development progress.

$rif treats tuberculosis and other bacterial infections, and antibiotics have always been the most widely researched and important field.

$uro is a metabolite extracted from pomegranates and other fruits, known for its potential longevity properties, and is also a direction of interest for Vitalik and all the big names.

The pump contract addresses for these two tokens are:

GJtJuWD9qYcCkrwMBmtY1tpapV1sKfB2zUv9Q4aqpump

FvgqHMfL9yn39V79huDPy3YUNDoYJpuLWng2JfmQpump

Since Vitalik and CZ appeared at the gathering to express their attention, these two tokens have received a lot of attention and quickly exploded. However, a bunch of related DeSCI representatives also emerged immediately — that’s how the crypto world works; when one animal becomes popular, its relatives are quickly brought out to speculate.

At this point, understanding the evolution of DeSCI and some peripheral information becomes important.

  1. Related to the BIO protocol

Binance’s investment in the BIO protocol aims to promote the combination of science and blockchain, and the BIO protocol has incubated http://pump.science.

Regarding the attitude towards the BIO protocol, there is much information worth noting on the Twitter of the protocol founder @paulkhls.

For example, he warns of risks, stating that there are now hundreds of “desci” tokens emerging, and he mentions:

“Real science is hard to put on-chain; don’t just issue tokens. We will do our utmost to protect users and scientists and build a permissionless platform for patients.”

Last week, he held a “small conference” on biotechnology in Bangkok, and the guests were quite impressive, so his views should be particularly noted.

Essentially, this is about creating a financial market for science, just like building Wall Street for the U.S., driven by speculation to realize value.

Understanding these essentials makes it less likely to be misled. For instance, some people in the crypto world might rush to issue a certain symbol and contract, hoping to get confirmation for speculation; others might start looking for angles to issue tokens in the name of science. While these could be good things, one must not be misled by the main line of this wave of DeSCI; losing money is minor, but missing the main line is significant.

  1. Rapid revelations from the official space

In the official space of http://pump.science on the 17th, the officials mentioned many exciting contents, such as a segment discussing:

We hope to create products in the right way, conduct human trials, provide Uro to people, and test wearable devices or utilize data from wearable devices to see if they can really improve lifespan.

Biomarkers, such as maximum oxygen uptake (VO2 max), heart rate, or heart rate variability, are different metrics tracked by wearable devices like Apple Watch and Whoop. We want to see if Uro can really improve these human metrics.

Our goal is to sell this supplement to people. All revenue from supplement sales will be used to buy back and destroy tokens. You can imagine someone going to the store to buy Uro; any profits will be used to buy back and destroy tokens, creating a cycle.

At the conference in Bangkok, Vitalik showcased a bottle of the biological supplement VC001, which is a product from VitaDAO, a natural high-dose spermidine supplement approved by the Thai FDA. The RIF and URO that VitaDAO is researching should naturally head towards market launch.

Regarding the future success of drugs and their market sales, a portion of the profits will be used to buy back and destroy tokens — this vision instantly makes the platform http://pump.science different. If blockchain can support biotechnology and ultimately have good new drugs listed (not necessarily the two today, but possibly many in the future), this becomes a very powerful channel connecting web2 and web3, allowing speculation to create value and supporting the most important fields for development.

Wall Street, born under the sycamore tree, is a sanctuary for speculation, but the funds generated by speculation have supported America in achieving greatness.

In this space, the officials also mentioned why they chose to use memes; they said they consulted experts in economic models and ultimately selected this method as the optimal one. They also mentioned Doge, etc. I can't help but wonder where these experts come from, considering Binance's deep involvement in the economic models of investment projects, especially since this is a field CZ is most concerned about, which raises reasonable doubts.

You can listen to the original recording on the official Twitter.

4. Targets in DeSci

Currently, the best targets are $rif and $uro, in addition to some other noteworthy targets, which I will detail one by one.

  1. Leading Tokens $rif and $uro

This is beyond doubt.

As the leader of the new track — this will lead people to benchmark against aimeme.

Aimeme has a weak correlation with OpenAI, which has a market value of around $150 billion. In contrast, descimeme is associated with Pfizer, also valued at around $150 billion, but it has directly invested in VitaDAO, where $rif and $uro are located, making it more noteworthy.

The driving force behind aimeme's popularity was a $50,000 investment from a16z, while the surge in DeSci is driven by CZ and Binance. I believe the latter's influence far surpasses that of a16z, and this should be unquestionable.

Science and AI are similar in the broader context; both are things that change the world. However, compared to the FOMO in AI financing, science needs blockchain more.

  1. Potential for Listing on Binance

Aside from the backgrounds mentioned above, readers should have some understanding.

More importantly, what does Binance want? Compared to transaction fees and the much-debated listing fees, these are trivial matters. What Binance cares about is the development of the industry and expanding its circle; that is the lifeline.

Currently, meme coins are very popular in the crypto world, which actually highlights the weakening of value. However, if the crypto world is left with only memes, it would not be good for the industry or for Binance. The leading figure has also mentioned in interviews that she hopes to see more projects that create value. Where is the value of memes? Perhaps DeSci has set an example.

Vitalik's attitude towards memes has also undergone a significant transformation. In his latest views, he made a classic statement: “People come for money, but stay for ideals.” How to stay for ideals? I believe the combination of memes and value is the key.

Therefore, from the perspective of expectations for listing on Binance, considering various factors, it is quite significant.

  1. Analysis of Holding Addresses

The proportion of holding addresses is relatively low, and they have been washed for quite a while. The strong whales behind should have acquired enough chips (if strong whales exist^^).

The dispersion is quite high, which is a significant advantage; the top 10 hold a relatively small proportion, after all, they have been washed for long enough.

  1. Wide Spread

The combination of science and memes is easily understood at first glance, but if we change it to the life sciences of immortality, it sounds much more marketable.

In fact, most people haven't had the time to look closely at what this is, which is why I got up early to write this popular science article.

Basically, once understood, everyone should feel that the potential of this track is greater than that of AI and memes.

Speaking of which, the opportunities in the crypto world have not changed over the years: just follow closely behind Vitalik, Musk, and Binance, right?

5. Other Targets

In addition to these, what other coins can be focused on? Here, I will divide them into two categories: one is orthodox value coins, and the other is a bunch of coins that emerged after $rif became popular.

  1. Value Coins

Due to token distribution and economic models, I have a hunch that value coins may not be very popular. Their relative advantage over memes is that they are relatively stable, but the disadvantage is that the community may not support them.

The main targets include $bio, $vita, and $rsc.

Bio is an investment from Binance, which is a key focus, but it is currently not available for purchase.

Vita is the token of VitaDAO, with a circulating market value of 24 million and a total circulation of 170 million. The two popular memes are issued by it, but this coin may not necessarily be listed on Binance, after all, memes are king, and Binance invested in the bio protocol.

Its contract is:

0x81f8f0bb1cB2A06649E51913A151F0E7Ef6FA321

Rsc is also science-related, associated with Coinbase founders, etc., with a circulation of 780 billion and a market value of 800 million! A bit high, just putting it out there for everyone to know (after all, Coinbase has almost no wealth effect on value coins).

0xd101dcc414f310268c37eeb4cd376ccfa507f571

This wave is mainly led by Binance, with no involvement from Coinbase.

The difference between Coinbase and Binance is that there is no soul figure like the leading lady; everything is handled in a businesslike manner, with no opportunity to lead anything.

  1. Other Meme Coins

When something becomes popular, a bunch of imitations emerge; it’s the norm in the crypto world, with speculators everywhere. Some are just riding on names, while others are waiting for images. Personally, I generally only focus on the strongest leaders, but I will share them for everyone to consider comprehensively.

The reason for focusing on the leaders is not personal preference but rather investment experience:

When a new track or concept emerges, people quickly look for lower market cap, similar concepts — especially those with intent will quickly launch new projects. However, the first or leading token in a new track or concept is often the strongest, and speculating on it usually yields the greatest returns (excluding whales).

For example: BRC20's $ordi

Musk's $doge

The national salvation concept's $pnut

Aimeme's $goat

The memorial concept $luce

DeSci's $rif

And so on.

Because I have a principle: I almost never participate in anything that can be issued by a flow-based whale; I only participate in things that ordinary people cannot create.

Next, I will list some coins:

The first is Scihub

GxdTh6udNstGmLLk9ztBb6bkrms7oLbrJp5yzUaVpump

Scihub is the largest piracy paper site. It uses various methods to bypass publishers' paywalls, providing millions of academic papers and works without considering copyright issues. Some people see this as justice, but overall, the downsides of piracy should be undisputed, which is why this site has been targeted by various countries.

The coin in the crypto world has no direct relationship with this site; it’s just that a whale saw DeSci becoming popular and quickly launched this coin, then started organizing donations, etc. This is good for the lady receiving the money — but I am also a bit worried about getting caught up in this storm and whether there will be more risks in the long run.

From a speculative perspective, where it can ultimately go depends on the whale's control over the chips and the pump situation, but I personally don’t like this. There was once an Assange DAO that seemed quite popular and also had a similar justice narrative, but the outcome didn’t seem too good (I don’t participate in such things, so my impression is not deep).

Additionally, supporting piracy may indeed carry compliance risks for exchanges when listing coins.

The second is bio/acc

7dxQE4YXrWqtwUVb8W8HjfPT3t4H4dWZfsDWRWKupump

The above is called bio/acc, with a market value of 3 million, also in the science track. The activity itself is quite high-end, but this token does not have a direct relationship with the official.

Of course, aside from the aforementioned $rif and $uro, others are not direct, so this list may not be complete; everyone can supplement in the comments.

However, I personally prefer to focus on the main line. In DeSci, closely following Binance is the only choice.

Of course, finally, I would like to remind you of the risks. No one can know in advance whether Binance will list or when it will be listed, so please refer to it yourself.
