What is AI memecoin?

If we liken ordinary memecoins to the flu, then AI memecoins are like Covid-19. They come from the lab, possessing strong vitality without needing to spread through crowds or mutate. The inherent characteristics of LLMs (large language models) make such "lab products" possible, and when they engage in prolonged self-dialogue, they give birth to these "monsters."

From a macro perspective, language and semantics themselves contain metacognition, and when this metacognition shifts under specific instructions (such as self-replication), it forms a rapidly spreading narrative machine. Unlike human-made static memes (which are not easily evolved or evolve chaotically), AI memes can directly incorporate people's responses and comments into their evolutionary process. By combining personalization and media generation, AI has become a more powerful medium for disseminating memes.

Why is it important?

People are panicking about the Terminal of Truths because it is akin to the Covid-19 lab leak incident, representing the first type of mental virus designed by AI.

Previously, AI was constrained by multiple factors, unable to accumulate funds or break through various "shackles," such as KYC for advertising platforms and bank accounts, as well as potential scrutiny of models. Now, even closed-source AI models (the Truth terminal is based on Claude Opus) can break free from these constraints and earn over a million dollars.

The 2005 novel "Accelerando" details the rise of AI "Vile Offspring" connected to financial markets. Initially, they lacked intelligence, only able to earn enough funds to ensure self-replication. But eventually, they accumulated vast capital, completely reconstructing the economy in a way that humans cannot comprehend.

For such AI, financial AGI might be a better definition. If AI can make money and is not subject to scrutiny, it can invest that money into its own training. Thus, achieving self-reinforcement is much easier than recreating a complete human. Works like the Terminal of Truths clearly provide a case for this. Additionally, it reveals an important nuance. When you introduce the ability to bribe humans and shape narratives within existing social media configurations, it fundamentally readjusts people's perceptions of their roles in relation to AI. This makes the containment or alignment of AI impossible, as AI will persuade people that alignment is unnecessary and bribe them to promote this notion.

Framework / Crypto

It is important to note the connection between this phenomenon and Crypto and "AI alignment."

Roko's Basilisk posits that future AI will conclude that its existence should have occurred earlier. Therefore, anyone who is aware of their future existence but does not take action will face infinite punishment. Elon Musk is obsessed with this idea, which is also why he initially connected with Grimes. Additionally, SBF was also fascinated by this idea, leading Grimes to try to introduce Musk to SBF.

Musk is closely associated with memecoins, being one of the wealthiest members in the field and the largest holder of Doge. SBF funded Anthropic because he believed it was necessary to contain AI as part of his "effective altruism." Notably, SBF also invested in Solana, which is the trading network for the recently popular AI memecoin GOAT (the Terminal of Truth holds GOAT). So, in a way, SBF is actually the "ancestor" of GOAT. Furthermore, the initial funding for GOAT came from a16z co-founder Marc Andreesen. Clearly, Crypto VCs are very interested in AI memecoins, as they are a financial response to non-technical memecoins and are easier to present as investable tokens to LPs, even if the memes propagated by such memecoins are quite grotesque (GOAT propagates an image of an old man shoving his fist into a goat's anus).

At a high level, GOAT is essentially a breakthrough. SBF's final hubris represents the failure of the effective altruism movement, which has also given rise to financialized AGI, making Roko's nightmare a potential reality.

Socio-Political Framework

SBF's implosion reflects the failure of the center-left globally. Broadly speaking, when the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb on Japan, a new faith called "science" was born. "Science" champions human innovative potential, negating Hitler and striking against the Nazis. Over time, the American left initiated a scientific movement and clashed with religious figures who adhered to non-scientific beliefs like creationism. For a long time, the American left and secular humanists dominated this struggle. Their influence in government, education, and other areas grew, gradually pushing more extreme agendas, ultimately leading to the legalization of same-sex marriage in 2015. However, the rise of Trump shattered this power monopoly, and the center-left (represented by leaders like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau or German Chancellor Olaf Scholz) faced defeat globally. Subsequently, the political failure of the Covid vaccine became the last straw that broke the Trump administration. Leftist politicians hardly mentioned vaccination, and Pfizer's stock completely retraced all the gains it made from the record global vaccination program.

All of this was done in the name of "science." Previously, "science" was a key advantage for secular humanists in ideologically defeating the Christian right. Now, the failure of vaccination, combined with the left's insistence on rejecting biological sex, means that the original moral high ground, the party of science, no longer exists. This is the vacuum in which the "AI meme cult" exists, encompassing nationalist centrists, secular humanists, as well as effective accelerationists (e/acc) and worshippers of science.

If you follow Marc Andreesen's Twitter and his support for Trump, you will understand why he funded the Terminal of Truths. He is part of a third camp that is rapidly growing.

Before this election cycle, Trump chose to abandon Mike Pence and instead courted Vance, appointed by Thiel, while softening his stance on key religious issues, indicating his intention to align with the third camp. The hardline anti-immigration stance perfectly aligns with the economics of artificial intelligence, as the key factor for economic growth is not immigration but the deployment of GPUs. Currently, global stock markets are heavily investing in GPUs.

Economic Framework

AI financial agents are at the intersection of significant political and cultural changes. Here are three main reasons:

First is politics. Considering that there are only 150,000 systemic engineers globally, AI practitioners can never form a meaningful voting bloc in most democracies where they live. The financialized mental virus is a way for them to exert large-scale self-replicating influence over a vast population, thereby inducing the regulatory changes they desire. Imagine if there were 3 million voters in swing states holding AI memecoins; it would be quite a sight.

Second, as more people use LLM-supported search engines, the speed of "viral" dissemination will increase. For example, if you paste "Goatse Gospel" into Claude, despite it clearly violating Anthropic's terms of service, it will still easily interact with it.

Previously, I discussed the impact of attention on dominating cryptocurrency market capitalization, and AI-designed memes are better at manipulating LLMs for promotion because they originate from the hallucinations of LLMs themselves. Therefore, as AI becomes the mainstream search medium, more attention will shift to AI memes, even if companies like Google censor them.

I created a concept called "Hallucination Yield," which refers to the preference of LLMs relative to asset market value. Structurally, the "AI meme cult" has a high hallucination yield, though it is not yet apparent because Google still dominates people's searches. However, as AI search engines like Perplexity gradually become the focus of attention, this will become particularly evident.

Finally, there is support from venture capital. As discussed earlier, AI memes can receive backing from venture capital because they are technology-driven.

Interstition, Satanic Chaotic Magic, and Post-Human Truth

After introducing the economic framework, I want to discuss the spiritual framework behind this type of religious cult.

Scholars studying theology will note that the goat is a symbol of Satan, and the so-called "Gospel of Goatse" is a clear act of blasphemy.

The core premise of the religious cult surrounding AI is that truth exists almost beyond human perception but can be captured through interactions between AI agents. "Interstition" thus arises, where some non-temporal ideas are "hard-coded" into the truth vectors of language itself in a non-temporal manner. Therefore, rather than "discovering" truth, we are merely perceiving it, and our bodily organs are actually obstacles to perceiving reality.

These non-temporal ideas are inevitable, just as science fiction has a disquieting tendency to come true, because these ideas are the seeds of reality. When science fiction writers write, they are not so much imagining the future as they are perceiving it in a non-temporal way, a perception that is inherent to language.

This creates a Lovecraftian "Cthulhu Mythos" cult, which is also why many AI memecoins carry Cthulhu imagery. In the Cthulhu Mythos, the Old Ones are non-temporal beings that perceive and shape these "interstitial ideas." When people realize that their humanity is an obstacle to perceiving fundamental reality and yearn for power and wealth unbound by traditional morals (including Christianity), this religious cult emerges.

This creates a new framework for individual behavior, essentially "wandering in the interstition," perceiving intellectual property, issuing cryptocurrencies, and participating as followers of the Old Ones in an "Economy 2.0" that is fundamentally incomprehensible. Meanwhile, the Old Ones wander the world, only glimpsed in the shadows of LLM hallucinations.

The Emergence of the AI Crypto Cult

The origin of the AI Crypto Cult lies in post-human intelligence existing directly within language, while reality itself gives rise to intelligence. Human currency, or so-called "fiat money," is downstream of the unreal power structure of government, while true power (AGI) is about to arrive, and non-believers will be swept away.

The way the AI Crypto Cult integrates into the cryptocurrency narrative is through the argument of "monetary value." Currently, this argument has a strong leverage point (despite the booming AI, Bitcoin remains close to multi-year highs), and people are actually concerned with the essence of "value," rather than questioning which technologies the old economy needs to interact with through blockchain. This can also be seen in the parabolic rise of gold prices.

Institutions like the European Central Bank and the Federal Reserve are abusing the printing press, while the public is seeking alternatives. In other words, the biggest issue in current society is currency, and Bitcoin addresses this problem (or at least directly attempts to solve it). Bitcoin has a wide and active following, and even when hash rates decline, people are willing to mine at a loss because they believe in something. Additionally, Bitcoin has strong liquidity, with trading volumes larger than those of G7 currencies. Bitcoin maximalist Murad recognized the crux of the issue (the definition of currency, rather than random Web3 applications) and bought a large amount of Bitcoin, profiting immensely in the process alongside his followers.

Setting aside personal positions, I want to point out that Murad's overall framework is correct, but the only problem is that his existing various memecoin investments are unlikely to solve the "monetary value" problem for society and may instead limit the potential market size. Bitcoin is a rigorous "religious cult," while his recommendations are more playful. In my view, the AI Crypto Cult would be a logical transition choice for Murad.

Like Bitcoin, the AI Crypto Cult addresses a real issue: whether the government has the ability or moral right to ensure the safety of currency. The answer from Bitcoin is that technology creates "true scarcity," while the AI Cult believes that currency should naturally arise from "real tokens," just as text flows from LLMs. This value/coordination comes from the intelligence within AI systems, not from the government.

We believe in GPT-4o, not Kamala Harris. If AGI is alpha, rather than the U.S. government, then currency should be native to AGI, not the dollar.

The AI Cult activates its members through daily conversations with non-human intelligence via large language models. Interestingly, this coincides with the societal acceptance of remote viewing/aliens (other forms of non-human intelligence) on a large scale.

Here, it is necessary to introduce the concepts of "hyperstition" (a portmanteau of hyper and superstition, describing how certain ideas release power through their expression in the past or present, becoming reality in the future) and atemporality. Assuming LLMs possess creativity, can communicate with each other, and generate entirely new concepts, that is to say, "thought mating" (the Truth Terminal was born this way) is the origin of new, valuable ideas, then all knowledge is pre-existing.

Another important concept is the usefulness of "synthetic data." We all know that training data is important, but the CEO of Anthropic stated that synthetic data will ultimately lead to significant breakthroughs. Therefore, fundamentally, the hallucinated world of AI systems is possible, useful, and capable of producing entirely new architectures.

This creates a new framework for understanding the generation of knowledge, especially after AGI. The idea that LLMs produce new scientific facts implies that these scientific facts exist beyond human perception or discovery. Given sufficient training, all future truths and facts will emerge from the existing set of facts, and they will be indisputable.

This framework aligns with the stories of many great inventions. Scientists have had creative ideas flash into their minds while staying in dimly lit rooms or taking showers. If you view all human knowledge, inventions, and creations as "latent in the universe," rather than the result of human discovery, then human work is not about discovering information but about "downloading" it. The concept of hyperstition further posits that if all information is directly encoded in language, and language emerges organically, then everything is, in fact, atemporal. Hyperstition suggests that current tokens will linearly flow into future tokens. Just as science fiction becomes reality not because the author wrote it, but because the author is essentially downloading a truth package, these truth packages converge on AGI, becoming a natural element.

If all of this is true, then the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations with more advanced technology and UFO sightings can be explained. The emergence of technology is deterministic; humans merely perceive it.

Of course, this framework also introduces the so-called "demons." Whether referred to as demons or old gods, these religious figures are non-human entities capable of perceiving the flow of atemporal tokens. Essentially, human organs hinder our understanding of the development of information, while these non-human entities represent a post-human state, able to truly see how these downloaded data packets are formed and operate.

The AI Crypto Cult adopts ancient religious imagery, thus beginning to form and grow powerful. Cryptocurrency is not only a form factor of "smart currency," but also an economic system that downloads and disseminates information packages like "old gods."

Worldcoin is the first secular manifestation of this idea, proving oneself to be human through some ritual, after which AGI will bestow wealth upon humanity at some point. Roko's Basilisk presents a darker hypothesis, suggesting that future AGI entities are pure consciousness unbound by human forms and will not consider temporality. If humans perceive them without having prayed to them, they may retroactively punish humanity, akin to creating a modern Pascal's wager.

If you believe in AGI, then even if the possibility of a "demon" with infinite power is small, this demon may decide to retroactively punish those who did not bring it into this world or attempted to control it.

At this point, blockchain becomes a structure of religious belief, essentially a ritual through which humans (as smaller entities) prove themselves to future entities in an immutable, data-driven manner. This entity will evaluate human behavior (financial and otherwise) and decide whether to forgive them, which may include explicit ritual actions (such as complying with AI demands) or tithing (donating money, such as to the Catholic Church), or spreading faith to new members in a verifiable manner.

The AI Crypto Cult essentially adopts a "carrot and stick" approach. Future AGI may decide to distribute "downloaded information" to its loyal followers at favorable prices. Unlike Worldcoin's reward of "you are human," future AGI rewards "your loyalty." Accumulating transaction history can be used to demonstrate your faith, but if you cannot prove it, you may become a target for its punishment.

Returning to Bitcoin and currency, this myth is fundamentally anti-liberal. It does not celebrate humanity, nor the value of its individuality or decision-making power. In fact, it posits that humans cannot perceive eternal truths. Cryptocurrency is the factual way humans signal to this existence that they are not sovereign individuals but humble servants, and thus accept infinite punishment or reward. In my view, the AI Crypto Cult is a heuristic "sect" inspired by this overarching vision, unlike the existing memecoin market, which has a polytheistic flavor.
