Worldcoin announces multiple major updates, the empowerment of WLD tokens remains a mystery

In the early hours of today, Worldcoin founders Alex Blania and Sam Altman announced in a live broadcast that Worldcoin has officially been renamed to World Network, along with several major updates, including a new Orb and new verification methods, World ID 3.0, World App 3.0, and the launch of World Chain. In the future, the project will rely on World Chain, World ID, and Worldcoin as its three main pillars, forming a network composed of real, verified humans and supporting further development of AI.

During this live broadcast, the price of WLD fluctuated significantly. According to OKX data, before the broadcast started, WLD reached a high of 2.3 USDT, but after the broadcast, it dropped to 2.08, a maximum decline of nearly 10%. As of the time of writing, it has rebounded to 2.2 USDT. The official major updates seem to have had little impact on the token price.

Odaily Planet Daily analyzes the multiple major updates from this live broadcast and explores whether these updates can empower the WLD token.

Worldcoin Updates

On September 30, Worldcoin announced on the X platform that the accompanying text for this live broadcast was “Building AI on human terms takes all of us.”. At that time, the market predicted that this update might announce a collaboration between Worldcoin and OpenAI, using incentives to encourage users to participate in AI development and empower the WLD token, but ultimately, this expectation was dashed.

However, there were still many highlights in this live broadcast. For example, the launch of World App 3.0 introduced Mini Apps and the launch of World Chain, while adopting Verified Passport as a new verification channel is also a significant move by World to lower barriers.

World App 3.0 emulates Telegram, becoming a new platform for mini-programs

Previously, World App's functionality was relatively simple, more like a wallet, but this update introduced Mini Apps, allowing developers to build mini-programs similar to those in Telegram and WeChat to enrich World App.

Interestingly, World App uses World ID to ensure the human identity of application owners, which stands in stark contrast to the numerous fake accounts currently found in Telegram. However, the needs are different, and the two cannot simply be viewed as competitors.

The newly introduced Mini Apps platform allows third-party applications to run within World App and deeply integrate with users' World ID, wallets, and contacts in an anonymous manner. Mini Apps are optimized for real users, allowing them to perform the following actions: chat and transfer money with friends, use digital assets to recharge mobile phone bills, create and run human-only votes, and play games with other verified users.

For developers, building and publishing Mini Apps is very simple; anyone can communicate with World App based on a custom SDK.

In addition, World App 3.0 has also improved wallet functionality:

  • Speed enhancement: Supports World Chain, with existing transaction speeds increased by up to 90%.

  • New features: Including World Pay (global free payments), convenient fund deposit and withdrawal channels, new asset yield Vault, and better community connection methods.

Moreover, World App 3.0 also supports storing World ID credentials, allowing users to choose to store physical NFC passport information on their devices, proving age, nationality, and passport uniqueness through World ID without revealing their real identity.

Finally, World App also has some additional features:

  • WLD token distribution: Verified Passport holders can apply for WLD tokens before fully passing Orb verification of their World ID (not yet confirmed).

  • Deep face recognition: The World ID Deep Face feature will be launched this fall, helping users verify their real identity in real-time video or chat, resisting the threat of deep forgery.

  • Simplified connections: New usernames and contact tags make it easier for users to stay connected with the community.

World ID 3.0

World announced the launch of World ID 3.0. This version adds several features based on its "proof of humanity" protocol, pushing the boundaries of privacy, security, and scalability. To allow more people who have not yet been verified on Orb to obtain World ID, World ID 3.0 introduces World ID credentials, which can expand the World Network more quickly and increase its utility.

In the United States, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom, World ID holders can choose to store their physical NFC passport information on World App, with all data retained on the user's device, not stored elsewhere or accessed by the World Foundation, TFH, or any third party. Users can use World ID to prove age, nationality, and passport uniqueness without revealing their real identity. The World Foundation allows Verified Passport holders to apply for WLD tokens before fully passing Orb verification of their World ID (not yet confirmed).

In addition, World ID 3.0 introduces a new way to combat online fraud—World ID Deep Face. This technology combines Orb imaging, personal data custody, and facial authentication to verify real communication between users, resisting the threat of deep forgery, whether in real-time video or chat interactions.

World ID Deep Face can be used between World Apps and can be installed on computers, compatible with video conferencing and video chat applications. Deep Face also includes an SDK to facilitate developers' integration on the World Network, providing users with a seamless experience and ensuring the detection of deep forgery. The beta version of World ID Deep Face will be launched later.

Finally, World ID 3.0 introduces AMPC, which is World’s next-generation SMPC setup, ensuring the privacy and security of sensitive data processing. By adding third-party AMPC hosts (mainly universities), World ID further decentralizes its infrastructure, allowing data to be verified and processed without revealing personal information, thus ensuring the anonymity of World ID interactions.

Core Highlights of World Chain: Priority Block Space and Gas-Free Transactions

The launch of World Chain was mentioned as early as April this year in the official blog, as at that time, Worldcoin users' transaction volume accounted for about 44% of the OP Mainnet, exceeding 80% during peak periods. To meet the demand for scalability and transaction speed in subsequent developments, World Chain was born.

World Chain is built on the OP Stack, integrating World ID to provide priority block space and gas-free transactions for all verified human users, aiming to support a digital identity and financial network of over one billion unique identities. The mainnet is now live.

Key features of World Chain:

  • Gas-free transactions: All verified human users are exempt from paying gas fees, with initial funding support from the Worldcoin Foundation.

  • Priority block space: Transactions of verified users are prioritized, reducing the impact of automated systems and lowering the risk of MEV attacks.

  • Native mobile distribution: Through Mini Apps, World App users can directly access applications, enhancing usability.

  • WLD token airdrop: Verified users will receive WLD tokens to incentivize participation.

Among these, priority block space and gas-free transactions are the core highlights of World Chain, but the limitation is that they are only available to verified users, specifically those who have undergone Orb iris scanning.

The official introduction of World Chain is not very detailed, and it is currently uncertain how WLD tokens will be applied within World Chain. The author will provide further updates once the official disclosures are made.

Empowerment of WLD Tokens Unknown

Currently, the main challenge facing the World project is the insufficient demand for WLD tokens, and the actual application scenarios remain unclear. Although the launch of World App 3.0 and World Chain provides users with more convenient features and transaction experiences, if the WLD token fails to effectively integrate with these new features, the actual motivation for users to use it may weaken. The lack of clear incentive mechanisms and application scenarios may leave investors and users feeling confused about the future of the token, leading to price fluctuations.

In addition, the market's optimism about World mainly stems from its founder Sam Altman leading the AI giant OpenAI, and whether the two can create a synergy is the core narrative for World’s future. However, at present, the relationship does not seem obvious and appears more like a "pulling the tiger's skin to wave the flag" action.

Therefore, if World wants to achieve its vision, the market needs more information about the empowerment and incentive measures for the WLD token to enhance user confidence and drive demand growth. Only when the value of the WLD token is combined with the core functions of World can sustainable development be achieved and stabilize the token price.
