According to Charles Schwab's "2024 ETFs and Beyond Study," Crypto assets have been on the rise among young investors. 62% of millennial ETF investors plan to allocate a portion of their portfolios to digital assets in the coming year.

Among all surveyed investors, Crypto assets are the second most popular asset class, marking a significant shift in investment preferences.

Compared to the previous generation, interest in Crypto assets has surged among investors. Among the previous generation, only 44% of Generation X investors and 15% of the Boomer generation expressed similar intentions.

The survey was conducted from July 2 to July 20, gathering opinions from 2,200 investors, including 1,000 ETF investors and an additional 200 respondents who began investing after 2020.

The research found that millennials are particularly keen on investing in alternative assets like Crypto. Currently, Crypto assets have become the second most popular investment choice for this group, second only to U.S. stocks.

Millennials not only seek to diversify their investments but also want to invest in markets that reflect future trends and technological innovations.

At the same time, 39% of millennial investors are eyeing spot Crypto ETFs, compared to 24% of Generation X and 11% of the Boomer generation, indicating a greater inclination towards high-risk, high-reward strategies.

Millennials are also more likely to embrace specialized ETFs, including those focused on long-short strategies, volatility hedging, and smart beta products.

In addition to Crypto assets, millennials' interest in physical assets like commodities and infrastructure reaches 45%, while their interest in bonds and fixed income stands at 47%.

However, the survey also revealed a cautious attitude among young investors. About 66% of millennials expressed confidence in their ability to outperform the market but also acknowledged concerns about whether their portfolios could recover during economic downturns or "black swan" events.

This cautiously optimistic attitude is influencing their investment decisions, with many prioritizing diversification through Crypto assets, which can hedge against inflation while providing growth opportunities.

Meanwhile, Crypto assets have become an important component of millennial portfolios, and the reasons extend beyond speculation.

Nearly half of the respondents indicated that their interest in digital assets stems from a desire to align investments with personal beliefs and values, further indicating a shift in this generation's perspective on wealth creation.

Millennials are also the most likely to personalize their portfolios, with 46% planning to invest in companies and funds that reflect their social, environmental, or ethical values.

This study emphasizes the increasingly important role of education in driving millennials' investment decisions.

As more financial institutions launch products based on Crypto assets and blockchain, information about these assets is also expanding.

In fact, compared to older generations, millennials are more familiar with direct indexing and similar customization options, with 80% expressing interest in exploring this investment approach further.

Despite market volatility, the research found that nearly 40% of millennials remain optimistic about Crypto assets, reflecting their long-term outlook on this asset class.

Charles Schwab's survey indicates that as Crypto products evolve, they will continue to attract young investors eager for diversified and personalized portfolios.

As Crypto assets gain more attention, financial institutions are expected to further innovate ETFs and other financial products to cater to the preferences of a younger, more tech-savvy investor demographic.

The findings suggest that digital assets are not just a passing trend but are becoming foundational elements of the next generation's portfolios.
