During the Token 2049 conference, Frachtis founder Xave Meegan communicated with several VCs and project founders, summarizing his insights on the platform. He pointed out 11 areas worth paying attention to, including DeSci and AI.

DeSci

After discussions with the founder of HairDAO, he gained a better understanding of DeSci, noting that cryptocurrency is well-suited to address deeply rooted scientific issues in academia and government funding. He is currently researching the business models of DeSci and identifying which scientific fields are facing funding shortages. At some point, a winner in the L1 category may emerge and dominate this space.

Dating

AI-driven dating is beginning to develop outside of cryptocurrency. It is anticipated that a dating application targeting cryptocurrency-native users is on the rise, possibly adopting a bounty model where individuals offer bounties to others (or agents) for tailored profiles. The best match will receive the bounty set by the bounty owner.

Openness

There has been a recent shift in the stance on consumer privacy, creating opportunities to build applications that, to some extent, "infringe" on consumer privacy. Other users can now more easily view the actions of other accounts than ever before. Users desire prompts and prefer convenience/targeted experiences over private/anonymous ones. However, institutional DeFi still requires privacy tools, representing an opportunity area for the next 12 months.

Artificial Intelligence

The intersection of Crypto and AI is currently an intriguing field, with closed-source models continuously improving over time, while open-source models risk becoming closed-source (as the marketing effect of open-source diminishes). We are still in the early stages of understanding how decentralized technology can best meet the needs of consumers (and businesses). Crypto tools can be utilized to address some interesting issues in the AI RAG field, such as privacy.

Applications

It is undeniable that we are entering the era of applications. Most infrastructure entrepreneurs are now developing applications. AI makes it easier than ever for anyone to create applications. There is now excellent infrastructure and rapidly growing blockchains (like Solana, Base, Telegram, etc.). The best-performing applications in this cycle will be those launched on solid infrastructure with the best distribution channels. In particular, popular social applications have significant opportunities to launch in any ecosystem with promotional capabilities. Early signs of social application development can be seen in projects like pump.fun and Farcaster.

CRDTs

An interesting technology used in social applications, CRDTs (Conflict-free Replicated Data Types), will continue to innovate. Farcaster is one of the first companies to use this protocol in an interesting way, and others will follow suit and innovate on this technology. CRDTs eliminate the need for consensus, ensuring that data is eventually consistent and conflict-free. As social protocols become more popular and the need for faster/cheaper storage increases, CRDTs and/or alternative technologies may become an interesting experimental field.

Telegram Mini Apps

Most application developers hope to build a Telegram mini app to complement their web applications. Within the next 12-24 months, all web applications on any blockchain will likely have a TG mini app, as distributing applications there is much easier. There is now an opportunity to build infrastructure for this, making it easier for developers to launch TG mini apps.

Telegram Middleware

Similarly, if all web applications eventually build TG mini app versions, there will likely be numerous opportunities to create other middleware that developers can use to enhance their applications. Telegram intends to open its technology to other third parties to build tools on top of it. This opportunity is somewhat reminiscent of when Facebook launched the Facebook platform, which provided developers with a framework to easily create applications (resulting in the creation of 100 applications daily). This time, it is happening on Telegram, and the framework for developers to build applications will likely be created by third parties. It is expected that when the decentralized Telegram platform stack matures (due to AI), the number of applications launched daily will far exceed 100.

User Experience

As more applications go live, cryptocurrency needs to quickly address its user experience issues. It is encouraging to see teams like Infinex making significant progress in this direction. More teams are expected to follow suit. Using Face ID to guide users is a good way to bring more people into this space. New UX frontends and TG mini apps may have an interesting intersection. There will be some winners in the user experience/guidance category targeting different markets.

Robotics

The intersection of cryptocurrency and robotics is still in its early stages, but some teams are exploring this area. Some projects are launching that encourage robots to upload data for learning, but the winners in this category within the crypto space will need to do more for companies outside of crypto to stand out. Not many people at the conference delved deeply into this category.

Intellectual Property

The significant funding for Story Protocol was not widely mentioned at the conference, but they have a substantial influence in South Korea. Story has development potential similar to other popular blockchains like Solana and Telegram. It is still early, but as the IPFi market develops, some interesting applications and protocols are expected to emerge in the next 12 months.
