The Solana Foundation has announced the launch of the "Radar" hackathon and has opened registration on the Colosseum platform. As the tenth hackathon hosted by the Solana Foundation, "Radar" is an online competition aimed at providing a competitive platform for the next generation of developers on the Solana network. The hackathon will run from September 2, 2024, to October 8.
Participants in the "Radar" hackathon can use the Colosseum online platform to create developer profiles, find teammates, exchange new ideas, understand the competition tracks for this session, and sign up to compete for over $600,000 in total prizes, $250,000 in early-stage investment, and a 1:1 incubation qualification from the Colosseum accelerator. Participants can receive up to $50,000 in individual rewards and special bonuses.
Over the past year, the Solana network has gained strong momentum due to the relentless innovation of developers within its ecosystem. These innovators have turned the Solana network into the preferred platform for payments, consumer applications, gaming, social, and DePIN, among other areas. From solutions that enable merchants to accept USDC payments, achieve near-instant settlement, and low fees, to a series of new applications emerging beyond the DeFi field, Solana developers have made significant contributions to the diversification of network applications.
"Hackathons play a crucial role in the continued growth of the Solana network, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration," said Dan Albert, Executive Director of the Solana Foundation. "These activities empower developers to create meaningful solutions that will disrupt various industries, address real-world problems, and develop practical applications that can only be realized on Solana."
To further encourage exploration of new application scenarios on the Solana network, the Radar hackathon focuses on seven major areas:
- DePin hosted by Solana Mobile
- DeFi hosted by Drift
- DAOs and Community hosted by MetaDAO
- Payments hosted by Portal
- Consumer Applications hosted by Dialect
- Gaming hosted by MagicBlock
- Infrastructure hosted by Wormhole
The best projects will receive the overall champion award presented by Sphere, including $50,000 in USDC and three tickets to the 2025 Solana Foundation annual conference Breakpoint. In addition, three special awards will be presented for the best charity project, the best climate and environmental protection project, and the best campus project. Hackathon winners will also have the opportunity to be selected for Colosseum's accelerator program, receiving $250,000 in pre-seed funding, resource links, and 1v1 support.
"We are very excited to host the next Solana Foundation hackathon on Colosseum," said Matty Taylor, co-founder of Colosseum. "Following the success of Hyperdrive, the Solana developer community is vibrant. We are honored to provide support at this critical stage of their journey. We look forward to collaborating with the Solana Foundation and many other partners in the Solana ecosystem to continue to encourage experimentation, entrepreneurial innovation, and solving real-world problems."
According to incomplete statistics, over the past three years, 60,000+ developers have participated in Solana's hackathons, with 4,000+ projects launched, raising a total of over $600 million in funding, and giving rise to star projects such as Jito, Tensor, io.net, Marinade, and Solend.
Teams and developers interested in registering for the hackathon can visit colosseum.org/radar.
