- Marry the Right Person
In a conversation with Bill Gates in 2017, Buffett said, "So far, the most important decision you can make is who you marry. I have been very lucky in that regard."
At the 2009 shareholders' meeting, he said, "Marry the right person. I'm serious about that. It will make more difference in your life. It will change your aspirations, all kinds of things."
- The Best Investment is Self-Investment
"Clearly, the best investment you can make is in yourself."
He emphasized taking care of one's body and mind, especially when young.
"If I gave you a car and it would be the only car you get the rest of your life, you would take care of it like you can't believe. You would read the owner's manual, you would keep a garage, etc."
"You only get one mind and one body in this world, and you can't start taking care of it when you're 50. By that time, you'll rust it out."
- Surround Yourself with "High-Quality People"
In an interview, Buffett said, "The best thing you can do in life is surround yourself with people who are better than you."
"If you hang around with people who are worse than you, pretty soon you'll start sliding in that direction."
- Work for People You Respect
"Try to work for the people you admire the most."
"It may not be the job you take when you're 25, but you'll learn a whole lot by the time you're 50."
"You should take a job that you would take if you were independently wealthy."
- Ignore the Noise
"Frankly, I don't care what economists say."
"If you look at the whole history of (economists), they don't make a lot of money buying and selling stocks, but people will listen to them. I have a little trouble with that."
- Success is Not Measured by Money
"Unconditional love is the greatest benefit you can ever get."
