$RISC has opened the precedent of rune airdrops. Due to its innovative gameplay of airdrops, mining, and runes, the market sentiment is very FOMO, and the price has risen from 200U to the current 1700U.
It doesn't matter if you missed the $RISC airdrop. A fairer rune, Runestone (symbol ᛤ), is about to be airdropped for free to active Ordinals addresses.
Here is a specific introduction to Runestone:
1. Origin
Runestone is an experimental project inspired by $RISC, initiated by @ord_io founder @LeonidasNFT.
$RISC was only airdropped to some Bitcoin blue-chip NFT holders, and the team reserved 10% of the allocation, which was not particularly fair in distribution.
Leonidas disliked $RISC's claim to be the first rune and implied the unfair distribution of $RISC, so he created Runestone to airdrop to the Ordinals community for free and raised $70,000 in the community for the airdrop.
2. Airdrop Rules
Runestone completed a snapshot at block height 826,600 (Ordinals' first anniversary).
The total supply of Runestone is 110,000, with a maximum of one per address. It will be airdropped in the form of inscriptions, and when Casey completes the development of the rune protocol, Runestone runes will be airdropped to inscription holders at a 1:1 ratio (Casey is currently playing Baldur's Gate 3, hoping that the runes will be launched on schedule, hahaha).
Leonidas' selection criteria considered the following factors:
- Number of inscriptions held
- File type of inscriptions (text/JSON), different formats of inscriptions may have different allocation weights
This includes cursed inscriptions (not sure if scrapped inscriptions count).
Based on the above factors, Leonidas announced the specific criteria for the airdrop today: owning 3 or more non-text/JSON inscriptions.
3. ᛤ and the Origin of Rune
ᛤ is derived from Anglo-Saxon runes, and its semantics are unverifiable.
Rune in Greek means "secret" and is said to have been created by the gods of magic, war, death, and knowledge - Odin. It was first discovered in 101 AD and has been used to this day, containing a large amount of esoteric knowledge (this part of the text and images are from @micaiOXS).
4. Issues to Note
- The snapshot has ended, so there's no need to specifically collect inscriptions.
- The timing of the airdrop has not been determined, so you can follow the founder's Twitter @LeonidasNFT.
- The airdrop is for inscriptions. When Casey completes the Rune protocol, it will be a 1:1 airdrop. Casey plans to release it at the time of Bitcoin halving (i.e., block height 840,000).
- Runestone is for airdrop, so just wait for it to arrive. There are no minting locations, so anyone asking you to mint is a scam.
