In the main venue in the morning, people are busy as usual, attending lectures, visiting booths, and taking photos. But at 2 p.m., everyone rushes to the main venue, scrambling for seats or even sitting on the floor, fearing to miss out on the important information to be revealed during the speech: the speaker is none other than Vitalik, the founder of Ethereum.

That familiar, gentle, and unique voice immediately captures everyone's attention. Everyone widens their eyes, perks up their ears, and focuses on this young industry leader, searching for important messages in his words.

Vitalik, who has always maintained communication with the community, candidly updates the latest achievements and challenges of the Ethereum ecosystem:

1. The Ethereum Merge upgrade last year was very successful, with over 25 million ETH currently staked in POS, ensuring stable operation for a year without major incidents. However, attention should now be paid to the centralization issue of major staking service providers and the transaction signature quantity limit in each time window.

2. Account abstraction, a technology Vitalik has been advocating, can provide effective solutions from the perspectives of user experience, transaction costs, and security. However, the implementation of account abstraction needs to consider the compatibility between various modules, such as the coordination issues between L2 solutions, and ensure the privacy of transactions and operations.

3. In the fiercely competitive L2 environment, projects should choose the appropriate L2 solution based on their needs for security and scalability. Vitalik's appearance at ETH HK has attracted special attention, especially following the controversy on social media last month.

It's worth noting that Singapore and Hong Kong have always played out the dual narrative of being the centers of Asia, from traditional finance and trade to Web3.

When Vitalik attended Token 2049 in Singapore last month, an audience member asked him, "What do you think of Hong Kong? Will Hong Kong become the center of Web3 in Asia?"

Vitalik pondered and cautiously replied, "I don't actually know much about Hong Kong. I know that the recent policies in Hong Kong have been very friendly. But for Web3 entrepreneurs, it is necessary to consider the stability of policies in the long term and whether they will remain so friendly. I cannot make a judgment at this time."

This sparked intense discussions within the community. Some netizens vehemently criticized Vitalik, citing various assistance from the Chinese community, and argued that he should not disregard the feelings of Chinese fans. Others expressed that it is indeed very rational to consider the long-term stability of a region from the perspective of an entrepreneur.

In response, Hong Kong Legislative Council member Wu Chi-wai immediately invited Vitalik, saying, "I sincerely invite Mr. Vitalik to come to Hong Kong to understand the situation. I am willing to coordinate relevant institutions and companies to share the situation in Hong Kong with him. Hong Kong is a special administrative region with a sound process for formulating policies and laws. Every policy or legislation in Hong Kong has to undergo a period of discussion, including government policy drafting, public consultation, discussions in multiple committees of the Legislative Council, and plenary sessions, etc. The central government has always expressed support for the development of 'one country, two systems,' so Hong Kong has the space to formulate policies for virtual assets. Global compliant enterprises are welcome to develop in Hong Kong."

Yat Sui, Executive Chairman of Animoca Brands headquartered in Hong Kong, also called out to Vitalik Buterin, offering to buy him a plane ticket and act as his tour guide in Hong Kong. He said, "In fact, Hong Kong is one of the most stable and free economies in the world, and China has always relied on Hong Kong's international perspective. Hong Kong will not become mainland China. Although Hong Kong has been affected by some political influences, it remains very free."

In fact, Vitalik has deeper ties with China.

Vitalik was born in Russia, where his father was a computer scientist. The family later immigrated to Canada, and at the age of 4, Vitalik received his first computer. By the third grade, he could do mental calculations at twice the speed of an average person, and by the age of 12, he could write small games in C++. Since then, Vitalik has been immersed in online games and computer code.

In 2011, Vitalik learned about Bitcoin and became a loyal supporter, actively participating in its development. In 2012, Vitalik co-founded the media outlet Bitcoin Magazine.

Subsequently, he actively proposed suggestions for Bitcoin, including a new concept of a "programmable, decentralized, and capable of carrying and processing smart contract applications" to upgrade Bitcoin for more applications.

At the end of 2013, Vitalik published a paper titled "Ethereum: The Next Generation Smart Contract and Decentralized Application Platform." In this paper, he analyzed the design, potential, and shortcomings of the Bitcoin system, and elaborated on the potential of Ethereum to build various decentralized applications.

However, the early development of Ethereum was not smooth sailing.

In May 2014, Vitalik came to China to promote the upcoming Ethereum crowdfunding presale. During this trip to China, Vitalik met with many community members and detailed the Ethereum project. Many people expressed doubts and even told him, "You are just a scammer!" and then ruthlessly drove him away.

In a group photo with a Chinese community, Vitalik stood in the last row, fourth from the right, with half of his face obscured by the person in front.

Finally, one night in 2014, he visited Xiao Feng, the chairman of Wanxiang Blockchain Lab.

"Launching Ethereum required a large amount of funds, and Mr. Xiao from Wanxiang purchased $500,000 worth of Ethereum. I am really excited!" Vitalik said. This $500,000 enabled him to start the project and develop the Ethereum plan. In addition, Wanxiang also helped him establish the Chinese community, assisted them in communicating with Chinese regulators, and introduced many Chinese startups to enrich the Ethereum ecosystem. In July 2014, the Ethereum plan officially launched the Ether crowdfunding, and the entire process went very smoothly. The Ethereum team successfully raised 31,000 bitcoins, equivalent to $18 million. Vitalik has visited China 10 times and, speaking fluent Chinese, he can answer most blockchain questions in Chinese. Because of his fluent Chinese and excellent technical background, he is well known among Chinese entrepreneurs. In his spare time, he also gets along well with Chinese entrepreneurs.
