On November 3, Xiao Feng, Chairman of Wanxiang Blockchain and HashKey Group, officially announced at the Hong Kong Fintech Week that the "2024 Hong Kong Web3 Carnival" co-hosted by Wanxiang Blockchain Laboratory and HashKey Group, and organized by W3ME, will be held at 3FG, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center from April 6th to 9th, 2024.
The first Hong Kong Web3 Carnival was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center from April 12th to 15th, 2023. As one of the largest Web3 events in the world, there were nearly 200 peripheral activities during the carnival, with a total of over 50,000 offline participants and over 300 highly influential global speakers and over 100 popular projects exhibiting, which was hailed by the industry as a milestone event in the development of Web3 in Hong Kong.
In recent years, the development of Web3 in Hong Kong has been advancing by leaps and bounds. From the release of the "Policy Declaration on the Development of Virtual Assets in Hong Kong" in 2020 to HashKey Exchange becoming the first officially licensed virtual asset service institution, Hong Kong is firmly committed to becoming an "international innovation and technology center" and is fully promoting the rooting of Web3 in Hong Kong.
At the first Web3 Carnival, representatives from the Hong Kong government and official institutions, including Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Paul Chan, Legislative Council Member (Technology and Innovation) Charles Mok, Deputy Director of the Innovation and Technology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Annie Choi, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Shuk Fan Cheung, Chairman of Cyberport Hong Kong Lee George Lam, Assistant Chief Executive (Monetary Management) of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority Eddie Yue (then), Temporary Head of the Intermediaries Division of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong (Chairman of the Fintech Advisory Group) Brian Cai, CEO of Cyberport Hong Kong Peter Yan, Director of Financial Services of Invest Hong Kong Dickson Leung, and Director of STP Platform of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation Lou Ming Ho, collectively appeared at the first Web3 Carnival. Some of them also analyzed in depth the policies for nurturing Web3 talents and supporting Web3 enterprises in Hong Kong as keynote speakers, helping projects considering settling in Hong Kong to clarify the opportunities and risks involved.
After more than a decade of accumulation, blockchain is moving from the stage of infrastructure construction to a new stage of large-scale application, and Web3 is the landing point for blockchain applications.
