The next Ma Huateng?

Recently, the news of undergraduate Zhang Yufeng, who graduated from Shenzhen University only a year ago, donating 50 million to his alma mater has caused a sensation on the internet. Shenzhen University has called for "being able to cultivate 10 outstanding alumni of Ma Huateng's caliber by the middle of this century," and some even crowned Zhang Yufeng as "Little Ma Huateng."

However, Wu Shuo found many doubts after a simple investigation, and a former employee of FTX even bluntly said, "I feel he has delusions."

The earliest report from Interface News confirmed to Wu Shuo that Zhang Yufeng's 50 million donation has not been actually donated yet. The article also mentioned that he "will discuss the donation with Shenzhen University on September 28." Previously, Wu You, a student from China University of Mining and Technology, promised a donation but failed to fulfill it and was sued by the school. Wu You's famous saying is: "Only blockchain and mental hospitals can save the future of humanity."

Zhang Yufeng was a student of the 18th International Economics and Trade Class 2 of the School of Economics at Shenzhen University. It is currently uncertain whether he graduated normally, and according to Securities Times, his classmates said, "He didn't take several courses, and we don't know if he will take them later."

The online rumor that Zhang Yufeng's father is an early partner of Tencent, Zhang Zhidong, is false. Zhang Yufeng once stated in his own content on Jike that his father runs a printing factory and, under his guidance, "rose from the dead," and "I lent my father some money and bought a UV printing machine to print star cards."

Zhang Yufeng claims to be a partner at ABD Venture, a hedge fund in Singapore, but this fund is almost unknown in the industry, and no information can be found about it. A similar traditional fund is ADB Venture. Zhang Yufeng's Twitter account also claims to be the founder of Encinal Research, but no information about this organization can be found either.

Zhang Yufeng claims that since his sophomore year, he has interned at various top giants in almost every industry, including the Singapore cross-border e-commerce platform Shopee, international consulting firm McKinsey, China International Capital Corporation, Tencent, and a leading US dollar fund.

The authenticity of this resume is questionable, especially the difficulty of entering McKinsey and CICC. Such a dense internship experience is extremely rare. After the above news spread, a McKinsey China employee privately stated that the company is very small, with very few people, and has never heard of this person.

Zhang Yufeng claims on his Jike account that he is an MBA from Stanford. However, considering that he has only graduated for a year, it is generally difficult for a recent graduate, especially from a top school, to be accepted into an MBA program. And he claims to have served as the head of trading at FTX in 2022, making it difficult to have time to pursue an MBA.

The most astonishing thing is that in December 2022, Zhang Yufeng was interviewed by a well-known industry podcaster, detailing his experience as the head of the trading department at FTX and claiming to report directly to SBF.

However, according to Wu Shuo, Shenzhen Tide, and more than four FTX mid-level and senior employees, all stated that they have never heard of this person and believe that his content is impersonation and fabrication, "feeling he has delusions."

Three months ago, Zhang Yufeng wrote on Jike: "Recently, I have been summoned by the SEC for questioning every day, really annoying to the point of explosion."

Many people have consulted Zhang Yufeng and hope that he can clarify the situation, but he has not responded. Shenzhen Tide has also added him on WeChat for an explanation, but has not received a response. As of the time of publication, the person involved has not made any response. It is hoped that the person involved can explain the above doubts. It is hoped that Shenzhen University can complete the donation process as soon as possible.
