Off the Grid creator Gunzilla Games added a Bored Ape Yacht Club-themed content pack Wednesday as part of an “Ape-ril” promotion for Pro subscribers of its battle royale game.
The pack contains two new Bored Ape-inspired skins or avatar designs, along with two Ape-themed guns and two fresh emotes that allow users to “go apeshit” or “hump for dominance” when celebrating their in-game achievements.
“Time to go full ape sh*t with two Bored Apes battling for clout, coin, and chaos,” the game’s official account posted on X (formerly Twitter), alongside a promotional trailer that features Apes running around inside the game world.
Off the Grid also released a limited edition “Ape-fool Mask” that was only claimable on Tuesday for users that played at least one game on April Fool’s Day, making it a potentially rare in-game item given the limited availability window.
The Bored Ape Yacht Club is one of the most prominent Ethereum NFT collections, and surged to prominence in 2021 and 2022 alongside the broader market. Bored Ape NFTs peaked at a price of nearly $430,000 worth of ETH in April 2022, though now start for about $29,000 worth of ETH.
Owners of Bored Ape NFTs can use their avatar's likeness in commercial products, including in video games and on merchandise.
Off the Grid's Bored Ape pack launch comes just days after Gunzilla’s GUNZ mainnet rollout and the token generation event for its Gunz token (GUN). GUNZ is a gaming-centric Avalanche L1 network that will support Off the Grid and potential other future crypto games.
Despite the excitement surrounding the game and the GUNZ launch, GUN has dropped consistently since its launch, falling another 10% in the last 24 hours to $0.055—and more than 53% overall from its $0.115 peak.
At current prices, the token falls outside the top 50 gaming tokens by market cap and #800 overall, according to CoinGecko. Its $32 million market cap is particularly small compared to other major crypto gaming tokens, due to only around 6% of tokens being in circulation.
However, when comparing GUN by fully diluted value—or the current token price multiplied by its total supply—at a $550 million FDV, GUN is valued higher than other notable game-adjacent tokens like ApeCoin (APE) and Parallel’s PRIME, which are valued at $468 million and $395 million, respectively.
Off the Grid has yet to implement the GUN token and GUNZ mainnet following the launch earlier this week. Gunzilla’s Web3 Head Theodore Agranat told Decrypt on Tuesday that the mainnet migration is a “main priority” right now, but there’s no ETA yet on when that process will be completed.
Token price and mainnet migration aside, Off the Grid drew in at least one new player thanks to its new Ape content pack and Bored Ape profile picture (or PFP) on X.
“You get an Ape and PFP it, I play your game. Simple,” wrote Yuga Labs CEO and Bored Ape Yacht Club co-founder Greg Solano. “Logging in to Off the Grid tonight.”
Gunzilla did not immediately respond to Decrypt’s request for comment regarding the Bored Ape Yacht Club-inspired content pack.
