Cryptocurrency platforms serve as principal custodians of bitcoin ( BTC), and this mid-March analysis details the platforms with the largest bitcoin inventories. Approximately 253 centralized spot exchanges exist, with Coinbase leading the field in terms of BTC reserves.
The digital asset platform, Coinbase, established in June 2012 by Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam, possesses 1,123,540.12 BTC, based on timechainindex.com data. This inventory translates to $92.7 billion using current exchange rates.
Binance, initiated in July 2017 by Changpeng Zhao (CZ), possesses 679,690.64 BTC, according to the same data set. Based on BTC market prices on March 18, Binance’s assets amount to $56 billion.

Bitfinex, created in 2012 by Raphael Nicolle and Giancarlo Devasini, controls a significant 356,938.05 BTC, totaling $29.4 billion. In fourth position, Upbit, a South Korean platform established in October 2017 by Dunamu Inc., manages 175,200.89 BTC, valued at $14.4 billion.
Kraken, originating on July 28, 2011, by Jesse Powell and based in San Francisco, holds 171,679.10 BTC, worth $14.1 billion. Robinhood, formed in April 2013 by Stanford alumni Vladimir Tenev and Baiju Bhatt, holds 156,090.10 BTC, valued at $12.8 billion at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
The centralized exchange (CEX) OKX, established in 2013, stores 135,030.11 BTC, placing it as the seventh largest CEX holder. Based in Seychelles, OKX’s bitcoin inventory totals around $11.1 billion.
Bitstamp, founded in 2011 by Nejc Kodrič and Damijan Merlak, initially started in Slovenia before relocating its registration to Luxembourg. The platform, acquired by Robinhood last year, possesses 95,228.73 BTC, valued at $7.8 billion.
Gemini, a New York-based CEX launched in 2015 by Cameron Winklevoss and Tyler Winklevoss, maintains 71,366.89 BTC, worth $5.8 billion. Dubai’s Bybit, launched in March 2018 by Ben Zhou, holds 58,028.32 BTC, valued at $4.7 billion on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., completing the top ten.
Collectively, the ten aforementioned exchanges control 3,022,792.95 BTC, accounting for 15.24% of bitcoin’s total circulating supply. This equates to $249.43 billion in USD value on March 18, 2025.
