According to the Flipstarter fundraising proposal, the API, which has supported the bitcoin cash (BCH) community since 2021, faces closure on Dec. 31, 2024, without additional funding. The free service was created as a replacement for Bitcoin.com’s discontinued API, addressing developer needs with high standards for reliability. Over the years, Actorforth.org has invested over $300,000 to build and maintain its BCH infrastructure.
The campaign explains that increased server load, coupled with no commercial use for the API, has rendered current operations unsustainable. The service processes between 6,000 to 10,000 requests per hour, peaking at 275 requests per minute, with 25 IP addresses generating the bulk of traffic. Despite these challenges, Actorforth.org has refrained from charging for access or requiring user authentication.
Funds raised will be used to upgrade server capacity, improve software, and maintain the service for another year. Actorforth.org says stretch goals include introducing persistent streaming event subscriptions via web sockets if the campaign surpasses its 30 BCH target. Actorforth.org emphasizes that none of the funds will cover staff labor costs, which the team will continue to bear independently.
Actorforth.org, now part of Biggestlab.io, has a history of contributing to open-source BCH projects. By preserving rest.bch.actorforth.org, the organization stressed that it aims to ensure developers have reliable tools to build on the BCH ecosystem. Actorforth.org disclosed that contributors to the Flipstarter campaign will help sustain a service vital to the BCH developer community. The organization urges supporters to act swiftly, as the Dec. 31 shutdown deadline looms.
