I never thought I would return to this field again, writing, editing, and creating media contents. For the past eight years, of my career, I worked as a support specialist both locally and internationally through freelancing. The media path, with its often low compensation, had seemed a distant past.

And when I was moved to the Marketing team, I told my new boss it felt like a comeback to my media career. As a graduate of broadcast communication, it felt like a return to my roots. Not only that, I was given the chance to handle the new Web3 games segment, rekindling my childhood memories of being an avid gamer.

The Gentle Nudge: Discovering Spellborne

As I entered the Web3 gaming world, I dove headfirst into a game named Spellborne. After almost two solid weeks of playing, with red eyes and stiff joints, I was hooked! It’s reminiscent of a Pokémon game, requiring you to engage in several battles and even giving you the chance to catch your monster opponents. The graphics are lightweight for laptop play, the background music is unique and upbeat. The user interface is very user-friendly, too. Plus, it doesn’t require any installation on your device, making it easy for newbies to start playing without needing high specs or equipment.

Anyway, to avoid sounding overly dramatic, let me just say my life took a bit of a turn.

That’s why in this post, I’m excited to share the rich narrative and dynamic gameplay of Spellborne, offering a mix of exploration, combat, and story-driven content.

Spellborne: Unveil the Secrets of Mystical Monsters

Mon Studios recently launched the open beta and an online role-playing game (MMORPG), Spellborne. This open beta is titled “Season 1: Higher Stakes.”

In the beginning, players select from three distinct characters: Atom, Bellatrix, or Cosmo. Each character possesses unique abilities and influences the game’s narrative and outcomes, ensuring that every player’s journey is uniquely their own.

At Spellborne, there’s more to do than just completing quests and battling monsters. The game features a unique economic system, including a play-to-airdrop program where players can earn points by playing the game, referring friends, and creating content. Impressively, 10% of the token supply is set aside to reward the community, specifically those who are actively involved and joined early on.

Ownership is a crucial aspect of Spellborne. In this game, players can possess NFT assets such as apartments, monsters, and characters. These assets not only enhance the overall gaming experience, but also provide unique rewards, adding a strategic element to the game. Additionally, the in-game economy revolves around the $BORNE token, which is overseen by the Borne Gaming Foundation to maintain a fair and player-focused marketplace.

The game features both main quests and side quests. Let’s begin with the first four main quests.

Intro

Start your adventure by learning the basics of the game, including navigation, combat, and the use of magical artifacts. In this quest, I caught my first monster, WoodRoot. I also experienced here my first victory and first heartache. The first victory came with winning my initial battle. The heartache followed when I was defeated in my second battle. This defeat taught me how to heal every monster by visiting the hospital. In line with that, winning battles increases your monster’s trust. While repeated defeats decrease it, potentially leading them to no longer follow your orders.

Skin in the Game

Prove your commitment to the realm by undertaking a perilous journey to retrieve a rare artifact that binds your fate to the land. In this quest, I met Salesman Kenchi from Stars Clothing and helped him stick posters all over Yorokobi Town, the first unlocked town in the game. This task helped me become more familiar with the town.

Far From Home

Explore distant lands, meeting allies and foes alike, as you search for ancient knowledge that could turn the tide of impending threats. In this quest, I uncovered the second map, Sunshine Trail, reminiscent of the famous Pokémon battlefield. Here, I met Young Botan, who needed help finding his Flarpy, an air monster that flew away. After searching the map, I found Flarpy in the hands of two sisters, who refused to return him. I battled them, won, and brought Flarpy back to Young Botan. As a reward, he invited me to visit his town, Heiwa. However, I needed to first meet Businessman Hakari and catch a Dynorat to receive items useful for my next battle.

Rise of The Order

Join forces with the newly formed order of mages to confront an emerging evil that threatens to consume the realm. In this quest, I visited Hakari Property Holdings Building where Businessman Hakari lives. I had the chance to change my character’s skin or costume. As mentioned in the previous quest, Mr. Hakari challenged me to capture a Dynorat. In return, he would give me items useful for my future battles.
