Ministry of Commerce: If the US insists on further upgrading its economic and trade restrictions, China will accompany them to the end; China is willing to exchange views with the United States on important economic and trade issues between the two countries, and resolve their respective concerns through equal dialogue and consultationOn April 9th, the relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Commerce answered questions from reporters on the white paper "China's Position on Several Issues Concerning China US Economic and Trade Relations". The economic and trade relationship between China and the United States is an important component of the relationship. As the world's largest developing country and the largest developed country, China and the United States have strong complementarity in areas such as natural endowments, human resources, markets, capital, and technology, and can fully achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. The economic and trade relations between China and the United States are of great significance to both countries and have a significant impact on global economic stability and development. The essence of China US economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States 46 years ago, bilateral economic and trade relations have developed rapidly. The trade volume between China and the United States has surged from less than 2.5 billion US dollars in 1979 to nearly 688.3 billion US dollars in 2024. The stock of two-way investment exceeds 260 billion US dollars. The scope and level of economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States continue to expand, making important contributions to the economic and social development of both countries and the improvement of people's well-being. Both China and the United States have achieved success, which is an opportunity rather than a threat to each other. However, in recent years, the rise of unilateralism and protectionism in the United States has led to the continuous introduction of economic and trade restrictions such as tariffs on China, seriously disrupting normal economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States. China has to take legitimate countermeasures. I want to emphasize that there is no winner in the trade war, and China is unwilling to fight a trade war, but the Chinese government will never let the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese people be damaged and deprived. If the United States insists on further upgrading economic and trade restrictions, China has a firm will and abundant means, and will resolutely oppose and accompany to the end. As two major countries with different development stages and economic systems, it is normal for China and the United States to have differences and frictions in economic and trade cooperation. The key is to respect each other's core interests and major concerns, and resolve differences properly through equal dialogue. We hope that the US and China will move in the same direction, follow the direction indicated by the two heads of state in their phone call, and immediately lift unilateral tariff measures based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, strengthen dialogue, manage differences, and promote cooperation. China is willing to communicate with the United States on important economic and trade issues between the two countries, resolve their respective concerns through equal dialogue and consultation, and jointly promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China US economic and trade relations.
