Wu learned that the Solana community has recently been discussing increasing the capacity of Compute Units (CUs). CU is a unit for measuring transaction computing resources on Solana, similar to Ethereum's Gas, used to limit transaction complexity and protect network resources. The current Solana block limit is 48M CUs, with an average CU consumption of nearly 40M over the long term. Due to the CU limit set for each transaction, exceeding it will result in failure. The block CU is calculated according to the estimated limit, and the actual consumption is always below the upper limit, so 40M is basically the saturation point at which the block can actually consume CUs. The current proposals include SIMD-0207 (raising the block limit to 50M CU) and SIMD-0256 (raising it to 60M CU). SIMD-0207 has been approved and implemented on the test network, awaiting activation on the main network, with the aim of slightly increasing block space while verifying potential issues that may arise from breaking the long-term 48M CU limit. SIMD-0256 has just been submitted and is currently under review, with the goal of significantly expanding block capacity while the former has already been successfully implemented. It is worth noting that increasing the CU limit for blocks means larger blocks and higher performance requirements for verification nodes, which is a trade-off between network throughput and stability. https://www.
