The Ethics Committee of South Korean government officials revealed that over 20% of surveyed public officials hold cryptocurrency assets with a total value of 14.4 billion Korean won (approximately 9.8 million US dollars). Among the 2047 officials who need to disclose their assets, 411 hold cryptocurrency assets, with an average of 35.1 million Korean won (approximately 24000 US dollars) per person. Among them, Seoul City Councilor Kim Hye young holds the highest amount of 1.76 billion Korean won (approximately 1.2 million US dollars). The encrypted assets held include Bitcoin, Ethereum XRP、 Dogecoin and Luna Classic (LUNC), among others. This disclosure originated from South Korean Prime Minister Han Deok soo's request in 2023 for senior officials to include cryptocurrency assets in their property declarations, and on May 25, 2023, South Korea passed a bill mandating public officials to disclose cryptocurrency assets.
