A spokesperson for the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase confirmed to Cointelegraph that as part of its expansion plan to tap into emerging fintech talent across the United States, the company will hire over 130 employees in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The spokesperson stated, "Coinbase is making new investments in Charlotte, establishing a new physical office, and committing to hiring over 130 compliance and customer support positions locally within the next six months."

The spokesperson added that Coinbase chose Charlotte because the city is emerging as a significant financial and tech hub, making it an ideal choice to meet the growing customer demand and compliance requirements.

The spokesperson noted that Charlotte has a rapidly growing population and a high-skilled talent pool, providing an ideal environment to support Coinbase's long-term growth.

Since 2020, Coinbase has adopted a remote-first operating model while maintaining offices in San Francisco and New York.

The spokesperson said, "We remain a remote-first company, but given the unique nature of certain positions and how to better serve our customers, we do have some roles globally that require working in the office."

The spokesperson added that about 95% of Coinbase employees can choose to work from home, in the office, or in a hybrid work model. "From a broader perspective, we are consciously looking for top talent in talent-rich locations."

This expansion plan comes as Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced plans to add approximately 1,000 employees in the U.S. this year. This decision is driven by positive regulatory signals released by the Trump administration's support for cryptocurrency policies.

In a video posted on the X platform on March 7, Armstrong stated, "Just within about 60 days of his administration's policy initiatives, it has directly prompted Coinbase to plan to hire about 1,000 people in the U.S. this year."

According to the latest data from Stockanalysis, the cryptocurrency exchange currently has 3,772 employees. Adding 1,000 employees will increase Coinbase's total workforce by approximately 27%.

Meanwhile, Coinbase has also confirmed that it is considering applying for a U.S. federal banking license.
