Decentralized exchange (DEX) KiloEx has offered a 10% white hat bounty to the hacker who stole $7.5 million in cryptocurrency from its platform.
On April 15, KiloEx made a proposal to the hacker who stole millions of dollars from its platform. KiloEx stated that they have collaborated with law enforcement, cybersecurity agencies, and exchanges to gather information about the hacking activities.
The DEX also disclosed wallet addresses associated with the hacker, which are being actively monitored by the DeFi platform and other institutions. KiloEx stated they are ready to freeze the stolen funds. However, the DEX proposed that if the hacker returns 90% of the stolen assets, they would receive a $750,000 bounty.
KiloEx claimed that if the hacker returns the funds, they would consider the incident a white hat attack.
On April 14, a cybersecurity company reported that the attackers exploited a price oracle vulnerability to breach the platform. According to PeckShield's report, approximately $3.3 million in Base tokens, $3.1 million in opBNB tokens, and $1 million in BSC tokens were stolen.
The blockchain security company stated that the hacker manipulated the information used by the smart contract to determine asset prices, thereby executing the attack.
In response to the attack, the platform suspended its DEX operations. The platform also stated that the vulnerability has been contained.
The DEX added that if the hacker agrees to return the funds, they will drop the matter and publicly confirm that the incident has been resolved. KiloEx wrote:
"We will tweet to confirm your cooperation and close the case without taking further action."
The DEX informed the hacker that they could contact them via email or send an on-chain message if they accept the proposal. If the hacker does not accept the proposal, the DEX stated that they would escalate the matter to the relevant law enforcement agencies and continue the investigation with their cybersecurity partners.
"Your identity and activities will be exposed to the relevant authorities. We will persistently take legal action. The choice is yours. Act now to avoid irreversible consequences," KiloEx wrote.
