Musk Clarifies D.O.G.E Department Has No Link to Dogecoin Crypto

Elon Musk gave a statement, “There are no plans for the government to include Dogecoin in D.O.G.E” during a speech at the America PAC town hall in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Musk is known to be a supporter of Dogecoin. He clarified that he took the department’s name from internet suggestions D.O.G.E acronyms to Department of Government Efficiency. It has nothing to do with the DOGE coin. He said that he was going to name it Government Efficiency Commission, which he felt was a boring name, and took the suggestion from the internet. It is related to the Dogecoin, made after the doge meme.

Even after the clear refusal by Musk, opinions about Dogecoin's involvement are evident. After the website of the D.O.G.E department displayed the Shiba Inu cryptocurrency mascot in February. This display sparked speculations of crypto participation and resulted in a 14% surge in the price of Dogecoin. It further pushed the market cap of the coin to $58 billion.

Recent comments by Musk did not have any significant impact on the market. The value of Dogecoin price went down by 3.3% in the last 24 hours, current trading price is $0.1654.

What is D.O.G.E. Department?

It was established in August 2024, known as the Department of Government Efficiency. It was created to enhance federal technology and software, to improve governance. It is a major part of measures made by President Trump to decrease spending to reduce bureaucracy. Although the agency officially started on 20 January 2025. It is a temporary organization and took over the existing unit called the U.S. Digital Service, within the White House.

The functions of the D.O.G.E. include conducting mass layoffs, cutting programs for climate change, DEI programs, and scientific research accessing government data systems. It has investigated federal agencies like USAID, SSA, and CFPB. These actions are not considered controversial by the public.

Role of Musk in D.O.G.E

The role of Elon in the agency is still a subject of discussion. The White House proposed that he will be senior advisor to the president, and Trump said publicly that Musk is the head of the department. Elon said that he is not getting any monetary compensation for this participation.

D.O.G.E. is dealing with several lawsuits and opposition, challenging the cost-cutting efforts. Oppositions are saying that the restructuring measures taken by the agency are undermining the crucial public services. On the other hand, supporters are considering it as a needed move for effective governance.

Journalists and judges face difficulty in defining the agency. The Trump administration has given ambiguous details about the membership, authority, and leadership of the agency.

Dogecoin has no link to the Department of Government Efficiency, despite the name. Elon Musk made it clear that the agency’s name came from online suggestions and has nothing to do with cryptocurrency. Though Dogecoin’s price briefly jumped on the rumor, it remains completely separate from the government agency.
