AI Agent Track: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

I don't know if AI dreams of electric sheep, but I know that humans might be worried about electric sheep.

In the blink of an eye, it's 2025, and we are all familiar with AI, but many people do not have an accurate understanding of the definition of an Agent.

In fact, if a project is labeled as an "AI Agent," it means that its problem-solving logic must follow these steps:

  1. Perception
  2. Thinking
  3. Action

For example, the most common AI Agent project, which uses AI to automatically invest in cryptocurrencies, works like this:

  1. Perception: Read the latest cryptocurrency news
  2. Thinking: Determine whether the news is positive or negative for a specific coin
  3. Action: Buy if positive, sell if negative

It's very easy to understand.

So, is ChatGPT, a product we are all familiar with, considered an AI Agent?

First of all, although ChatGPT believes it is an AI Agent.

It also admits that it is only an AI Agent in a broad sense:

Therefore, if we define "AI Agent" broadly enough (as long as it has perception, decision-making, and action loops), then ChatGPT can be seen as an AI Agent; but if the requirements for an AI Agent include richer perception and physical/system-level execution capabilities, then ChatGPT is more like a conversational intelligent component and does not possess complete multimodal or physical environment operational capabilities.

Why is that? Here’s a wordplay—

Imagine if you want to use ChatGPT, you would simply say, "I want to use AI," without the extra effort to say, "I want to use AI Agent."

Thus, when we usually mention the term AI Agent, we must want to emphasize something extra.

Now, let's further abstract the characteristics of an AI Agent:

  • It solves a specific problem more vertically
  • It needs to obtain more data from the physical world

Solving Vertical Problems

Although for the future AGI era, GPT is limited to generating dialogue AI, it is a standard vertical application.

However, for 2025, GPT (of course, including its competitors like Gemini, Grok, etc.) has already become a versatile player of this era.

So, from a definitional perspective, these current AI Agents need to be more vertical than GPT.

More Data from the Physical World

AI Agents need to have the ability to actively acquire knowledge from the physical world.

For example, another AI Agent we are quite familiar with, the undisputed Twitter top influencer AIXBT (Mindshare ranking No.1), undoubtedly obtains more data from the physical world, such as various cryptocurrency news, which allows this purple frog to make various comments and predictions.

The most impressive instance for me was when AIXBT predicted that a coin would be listed on Binance within 6 hours, and it indeed was listed that very night.

Thus, we have the complete definition of an AI Agent:

  1. Processes using the "Perception - Analysis - Action" flow
  2. Vertically solves a specific problem
  3. Utilizes more data from the real physical world

Once we understand the definition, we can start discussing.

So, what can AI Agents actually do?

This question is actually a variation of "What can Crypto actually do?" AKA the question that many outside critics of cryptocurrency have spent their lives "questioning."

I have tried dozens of Agents across these four major frameworks, which I summarize into several categories:

1. AI Investment

I see a lot of this type; you can invest money in an AI Agent wallet, and then the AI Agent makes buy or sell decisions based on real-time news analysis.

Todd's Comment: I find it quite interesting, but the wallet's security is questionable.

2. AI Girlfriend / Boyfriend

This is what people often refer to as the so-called GPT skin. However, compared to the past, they have added some personality restrictions.

For example, Eliza repeatedly emphasizes to me: giggles, she is a real girl, not AI.

For example, AVA, a white-haired beautiful girl, excels at making videos to analyze market trends.

Todd's Comment: Political correctness in real life is too strong; it turns out people still prefer youthful looks / large breasts…

3. Opinion Output Type

You can have your AI Agent provide vertical commentary on something.

For example, AIXBT comments on cryptocurrencies and even conducts some research (like comparing multiple projects in the same field).

Another example is Zerebro, whose concept is quite fantastical, but overall, it feels like a crazy artist who talks nonsense every day.

Yet another example is a famous E/ACC (Effective Acceleration) real-life commentator, unexpectedly, a developer created an AI Agent that crazily mimics his speaking style and publishes some bizarre and wonderful statements.

Todd's Comment: Although many people doubt the significance of this thing, you must know: in this era, as long as there is traffic, there is significance.

4. Idol Type

Create an AI-based virtual idol that can release albums, such as Luna.

5. Prediction Type

There is a project in Virtual that specializes in Polymarket predictions, which can also be considered a variant of opinion type.

6. AI Resource Sharing Type

For example, FXN based on the Eliza framework, its concept is that if people are reluctant to buy various AI memberships, they can come here to buy a packaged version and pay per use, saving some money.

Todd's Comment: AI version of meal-sharing.

7. Other Types

For example, those that draw, generate animations, create music, etc., I won't list them all here. Overall, they haven't strayed from the current multimodal large model scope of the real AI industry.

Wait, what about the AI frameworks?

In fact, AI Agents are now flourishing, reminiscent of the ICOs of the past and the former DeFi Summer.

If we were to make an analogy, then AI16Z, Virtual, AVA, etc., are equivalent to public chains, allowing everyone to quickly launch their AI Agents using their frameworks.

Of course, this comes at a cost.

For example, if you want to use AI16Z/Eliza to launch an AI Agent, it requires allocating some tokens to the AI16Z treasury and staking AI16Z tokens, which is why the money in the AI16Z treasury keeps increasing.

Using the Virtual framework to launch an AI Agent costs 100 Virtual coins, and you must pair your own tokens with Virtual to create an LP, which is quite similar to SOL in relation to pump.fun.

AVA and Swarms are overall similar to the previous two, but since they came a bit later, their ecosystems are not as rich as the first two, but they are also making efforts.

The special aspect is that AVA was originally an AI project called Holoworld incubated by Binance, which decisively transformed into an AI Agent, excelling in video generation.

The founder of Swarms is portrayed as a genius youth; this framework has been running in traditional sectors for many years, is overall more technical, and emphasizes the ability to collaborate with multiple agents to achieve results (hence the name "swarm").

Of course, there’s a side story where he was harshly insulted by Shaw from AI16Z, claiming that his technology was lacking and demanding that the other party "suck his dick."

However, let's get back to the point.

Applications are applications, and tokens are tokens.

The most important function of these frameworks, or the biggest difference from traditional AI frameworks, is that they can conveniently help developers issue tokens.

Or to put it more bluntly: essentially, these AI frameworks are also modified versions of existing frameworks in the current AI industry, standing on the shoulders of giants, with their most crucial originality lying in the token issuance module.

Imagined AI Developer: OpenAI founding employee, Stanford PhD, annual salary 1M

Actual AI Developer: Issue a token first and then talk.

So, thanks to these frameworks, if you want to issue an AI Agent, your process is as follows:

  1. Determine the theme

  2. Find a framework you like and pay

  3. Issue the token and go public

  4. Create a Twitter account for the AI Agent to spout nonsense

  5. Inject more functions into this AI Agent (requires development)

  6. Develop a website, build a community, contact CEX

  7. Establish a sect and release your own AI framework

  8. Encourage more people to determine themes…

The corresponding valuations are (for reference):

In contrast, the process for traditional AI companies is:

  1. Determine the theme

  2. Fundraising

  3. Burn money

  4. Fundraising

  5. Burn money

  6. Fundraising

  7. Go public

Do you see it? Crypto + AI is essentially about getting you listed first without any hesitation.

A pure reversal of the traditional model, representing a literally "disruptive" innovation.

Moreover, due to the excellent performance of these AI frameworks in the secondary market (achieving a market cap of 1B or even 2B without being listed on any T1 or T2 exchanges), they have become the only hot track in Crypto at present.

As of today, it has reached a stage where everyone is flocking to it:

I must admit, it is indeed overheated in the short term. If there were an AI Agent fear and greed index, the greed index would be at least 90, with the possibility of it having already peaked.

In fact, we often see some genuine AI developers from outside the circle criticizing these things for lacking technical content.

However, my view is that the best use case for cryptocurrency is to facilitate rapid market discovery, even though it may lead to some bubbles.

Good products and founders can quickly gain exposure and community support, while the founders of bad products will immediately face negative validation from the market.

In such a fierce environment of nurturing, it’s possible that unexpected products could emerge that traditional AI developers never anticipated.

Looking forward to that day.

PS: To conclude, it’s quite funny; AI is impressive. After I finished writing this article, I wanted AI to help me come up with a title for the article, and it actually suggested:

That title about "10x coins" is something I genuinely wanted to click on… it really hits the G-spot of cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

But I still adhered to my heart and chose a title from the original work of Blade Runner: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

I don’t know if AI dreams of electric sheep, but I know that humans might be worried about electric sheep.

If AI develops for another 20 or 30 years… I can’t imagine the future.
