AI Memes on the market can generally be divided into two categories: those with technology and those without.

Strong examples like GOAT are backed by large language model technology, allowing AI to autonomously create memes during conversations, and the market sells this narrative; while AI Memes without technology mostly revolve around philosophy, abstraction, celebrities, and tech jokes.

With the increasing number of the latter type, it might be worth trying something different and looking at memes that have some technology behind them but haven't received much attention yet.

Five days ago, a meme coin called YOUSIM was launched, peaking at the time of its release, but then it went relatively unnoticed; however, last night, YOUSIM seemed to have been discovered for its value, with its market cap tripling overnight.

Some bloggers from abroad have also started to introduce YOUSIM, and out of curiosity, I went to learn about this meme and found that there is indeed some technology behind it.

It is the kind of technology that is easy to entertain and spread memes.

The name YOUSIM sounds a bit strange, but it translates directly to "You Simulate."

In fact, corresponding to the meme coin, there is a web application of the same name called YOUSIM. It looks more like a demo, but the content it showcases is interesting enough: it allows you to have a conversation with AI through a command line, playing any character, giving it an identity, and then starting a dialogue.

You can choose any historical figure, fictional character, celebrity, acquaintance, or even a completely new alien; as long as you preset a role, this interface based on a large language model will engage in a conversation with you according to the character's traits and knowledge base.

Therefore, YOUSIM is an interesting, open-ended demo that showcases the vast potential identity library that can be simulated within language models.

The usage is also very simple, and interested players can try it out themselves (visit here), it's quite amusing.

For example, if you type "Zhuge Liang" in the input box, the AI will simulate a conversation with Zhuge Liang, and it comes with a knowledge base related to this identity.

I deliberately tested the AI's response level in a very juvenile and abstract way, and clearly, the response was very much in line with Kongming's character, wise yet retaining an ancient charm, as shown in the image below:

What’s even more interesting is that YOUSIM comes with some symbol-based patterns, which adds a sense of fun; and the answers after such interactions can easily be played around with and spread on social media by various users.

You can even directly ask classic crossover questions from Zhihu, such as "If Zhuge Liang had 1000 machine guns, could the Shu Han be revived?" The AI will provide a logical yet humorous answer.

It has a potential vibe of being a meme itself.

However, in more tests, I found that it seems to have some deficiencies in understanding Chinese semantics and its knowledge base, but it performs better with English questions or foreign-related figures.

Not Just a Demo, But an Experiment in Identity Proxy

If we only look at this small demo, YOUSIM is at best a little toy for fun, and what it does seems not substantial enough.

But the purpose of this demo is not to provide a product for everyone to play with, but to showcase an interactive capability of AI identity proxy.

Behind this front-end window of YOUSIM, it is actually using Claude (Anthropic's AI model) as the underlying technology, leveraging large language models trained on vast amounts of data containing human cognition and behavior patterns, and finally expressing it through a "role-playing" interactive game.

In this, the technology behind YOUSIM can simulate an infinite number of possible identity combinations; what you see today is a text dialogue box and command line, but tomorrow it might be used in a game with its own AI personality and working style, and even more likely in other areas of life and production that require personalized roles.

Personalized and humanized interactive experiences are precisely the direction that AI proxies can and should take.

Moreover, YOUSIM is not a wild program; it is backed by an AI startup called Plastic Labs.

In its social media following list, you can also find Andy Ayrey, the founder of Truth Terminal.

The core product of this company is not actually YOUSIM, but the underlying Honcho — simply put, it is a system that provides self-improving memory for AI applications.

The design philosophy of Honcho is that if LLMs (large language models) can simulate infinite identities, then they are very suitable for simulating "you." The complexity contained in you at any moment, in any environment, and in any mood is your ever-changing identity.

Therefore, what we see with YOUSIM is merely a front-end created by this company to showcase its backend technical capabilities.

Although I couldn't find a direct link between the YOUSIM token and this company, making it unclear if the company just launched a meme; but in the current environment, as long as there is a connection, there is heat, whether it's an official initiative or community-driven hype, the identity technology and meme potential behind YOUSIM are evident.

If you scroll through this company's official social media account, you will also see it frequently reposting and acknowledging posts tagged with $YOUSIM, which in some way indicates that the company is aware of the existence of this token.

Finally, what can we see from this YOUSIM meme coin and the related AI technology?

The product itself is open-ended, with no fixed script, completely driven by the user's imagination; additionally, the operation is very flexible, allowing for modifications and adjustments to the simulation direction at any time, and meme creation often happens unexpectedly.

A product that combines entertainment and technology is bound to become a cultural symbol, stirring attention in the short or ultra-short term.
